Mixers are devices that blend combinations of liquids and solids into a homogenous product. They come in a variety of sizes and configurations designed for specific applications. Agitators provide the mechanical action required to keep dissolved or suspended solids in solution. 

The problem of acquiring complete knowledge of candidate material grades should be resolved in cooperation with the raw material suppliers. It should be recognized that selection of the favorable materials is one of the basic elements in a successful product-configuration design, material selection, and conversion into a finished product (Appendix A PLASTICS DESIGN TOOLBOX).

To model a complete stack, which may be constituted of more than 1000 cells, it is necessary to adopt a different approach. In this chapter a finite difference model is presented. Only energy equation and current conservation are solved. This allows one to examine possible improvements in the stack configuration design that can be achieved by taking advantage of the relation between temperature and elec-tronic/ionic resistivity, heat transfer and chemical reactions, etc. In addition, this model can be used for analyzing the effects of possible anomalies and performance degradation.

The chemical state of aluminum on the surface has a multitude of possible configuration designations. The state in the hydroxylated outer layer corresponds to various mineral phases such as AIO(OH) (boehmite), Al(OH)3, having a modified Auger parameter of 1460.6 on the acetone-cleaned surface and 1461.4 on both the (Aik) and (Dox) surfaces. When capped with a plasma polymer, depth profiles show that the state of the aluminum is seen to be consistent with the many oxides, as well as mixed states with plasma film components.
