Concept House

The convenience of the exergy concept houses the possibility to discuss energy issues on a clear and quantitative basis, in particular if the exergy values assigned to process streams are combined with exergy losses incurred in the processes in which these streams participate, either actively or passively, as the next chapter illustrates. [Pg.80]

To the existing all-plastic (or most-plastic) concept houses, a NanoHouse concept has recently been realised, which takes us from imagination to reality , as presented briefly in Chapter 2. [Pg.10]

In the earlier Nestehous , Concept House of Neste, Finland, the development of new on-site processing techniques were aimed at. Concrete casting moulds that stayed on the construction site were prepared from GFRP composites of polyester and they were used to prepare concrete rebars (prepared with concrete and PP fibres) used as the main load bearing material in the house. [Pg.345]

Figure 3-94. This wire system for GE Plastics Living Environments Concept House seen in Chapter 1 is made of GE s Noryl resin, for high heat resistance and easy processing. The raceway is a wire channel that runs along the wall, much like a baseboard, to contain electrical outlets, receptacles, telephone plugs, and cable connections. This extruded resin prototype raceway, which is featured in every room, as a UL 94 flammability listing of V-O. Figure 3-94. Figure 4-27. These roofing panels by Nailite International of Miami are featured on GE Plastics Living Environments Concept House seen in Chapter 1. The panels are made of GE s Noryl PPO resin, known for its excellent moisture, UV, wear resistance, and flame resistance. Nailite first marketed such panels in the Los Angeles area, where a ban on cedar shakes and shingles was being considered. Figure 4-27. Once the performance and environmental conditions have been defined, the selection of a suitable material can be made, and this in turn can be followed, if necessary, with the necessary engineering calculations to establish strength requirements. The basic data needed for calculations have to be collected and have to pertain to the specific grade of the selected material. The pertinent information required for making determinations for longevity of the product and obtaining a general concept of the character and behavior of the selected material should be supplied by the manufacturer of the raw material and/or obtained in-house or via a contractor. [Pg.19]

However, for most smaller industrial and commercial or institutional facilities around the world today, the concept of outsourcing just about every aspect of the requirement for utilities is not on the agenda, but it undoubtedly will come when the time is right. In fact, the added cost of full services is often prohibitive in those countries where in-house labor rates are low thus, much of the boiler plant preventative... [Pg.128]

A description of the MARS Data System follows to provide ideas and to illustrate working concepts for those interested in the specifics of in-house data system development. [Pg.11]

This facility design concept was not considered in White House reviews of reprocessing during the Ford and Carter Administrations, nor as an option for support by President Reagan, who had been elected on a platform to support reprocessing of commercial spent firel. The ERDA and the DOE had reassigned responsibilities for commercial fuel cycle to its Division of Reactor Development (later Office of Nuclear Energy) which supported pilot plant concepts of its national laboratories and rejected concepts based on successful experience and lessons learned from that experience. [Pg.71]

An integrated proof-of-concept (POC) size fluidized-bed methane reformer with embedded palladium membrane modules for simultaneous hydrogen separation is being developed for demonstration (Tamhankar et al., 2007). The membrane modules will use two 6 in. X 11 in. Pd-alloy membrane foils, 25-pm thick, supported on a porous support. The developmental fluidized-bed reactor will house a total of five (5) membrane modules with a total membrane area of about 0.43 m2 and is scheduled for demonstration by September 2007. [Pg.304]
