Figure 7-87. These roofing panels made from Azloy (GE Plastics Azdel, a thermoplastic RP) were featured on the GE Living Environmental Concept House seen in Chapter 1. These panels were designed to provide the highest fiame and fire protection listing given for roofing systems as well as to allow easy installation and excellent weatherability. Figure 7-87. Once the performance and environmental conditions have been defined, the selection of a suitable material can be made, and this in turn can be followed, if necessary, with the necessary engineering calculations to establish strength requirements. The basic data needed for calculations have to be collected and have to pertain to the specific grade of the selected material. The pertinent information required for making determinations for longevity of the product and obtaining a general concept of the character and behavior of the selected material should be supplied by the manufacturer of the raw material and/or obtained in-house or via a contractor. [Pg.19]

CWRT metrics have been developed on the basis of the eco-efficiency concept, defined as a ratio of product (or service) value to its environmental influence, where value is understood to be capital creation, and the main environmental influences are due to consumed energy, materials and water, and released green house and ozone depleting gases. Important aspects of the CWRT metrics are (i) normalization to dollar sales or value added, (ii) consideration for relative environmental impacts of different pollutants and (hi) use of national databases. [Pg.307]

The zinc industry is engaged in a process to characterize zinc s contribution to sustainable development and to develop the future business plan for the International Zinc Association (IZA) based on the concept of sustainable development. As part of this process, we are initiating a program to characterize the benefits/contributions of zinc to the world. The results will be delivered in terms of material, economic, environmental and social performance. This work will explore zinc s contributions to safe and affordable housing, safer and more energy efficient vehicles, better infrastructure, agriculture, health, etc. [Pg.24]
