Visualization of serial sections is the most frequently used computer technique in confocal microscopy, independent of specific applications [83], [108]. [109], Most commercial instruments have three-dimensional software implementations ready for the user. Three-dimensional objects are displayed on the computer screen by staking up the individual sections. Such techniques have been reviewed in several articles [110]-[114]. Besides surface rendering based on contours, volumetric representations that rely on the intensities of the voxels are the preferred techniques in confocal microscopy. A comparative assessment of both techniques is given in [115]. Reconstructions are presented three-dimensionally on a computer graphics screen by using either visual cues, animation, of stereoscopic displays. [Pg.1077]

Supercritical fluid extraction system - Hewlett Packard Model 7680A totally automated system with unlimited-capacity reciprocating pump, specially designed extraction chamber with safety interlocks, a variable restrictor nozzle and analyte collection trap. The operation of the extractor is controlled by a personal computer which is a Microsoft Windows-based system. An animated status screen provides real-time monitoring of the extraction process. Today, researchers continue the quest to estabUsh correlations between in vitro assays and in vivo observations [96,97]. Work is also underway to use animal data collected from in vivo experiments along with data generated by human in vitro systems to predict the metabolic behavior of compounds in humans [98]. The amount and diversity of data collected will be used to develop computational models for ADME properties.
