The CPE/CCP approach to POTW evaluation proceeds in two distinct but linked phases. The Comprehensive Performance Evaluation identifies and prioritizes the design, operational, maintenance, and administrative factors which may be the cause(s) of suboptimal POTW performance. The Composite Correction Program implements procedures (e.g., changes in plant operations, training for plant operators) to address these factors. The CPE and CCP are linked in that implementation of the CCP may feed back to affect the content or order of the prioritized list of factors affecting plant performance. The distinction between CPE and CCP marks a logical problem boundary for an expert system built around the CPE/CCP approach development of POTW EXPERT to date has focused on the Comprehensive Performance Evaluation.

According to the highest degree of membership principle, we can determine the level of idler comprehensive performance evaluation as "good", the membership degree is 55.4%. 

A comprehensive histology evaluation was performed in this study, but the liver is the only tissue specifically mentioned as having been examined. Due to the total number of tissues examined (21) and route of exposure, it is probable that the gastrointestinal tract was examined but not discussed because no histopathologic changes were observed.

As detailed in Section 3.2.1.2, the results of this study suggest that occupational exposure to PBBs, decaBDE, and/or bromine affected the thyroid, but the mixed chemical exposure and a lack of data on serum or tissue levels of the chemicals preclude attributing effects solely to any particular congener or mixture of congeners.

Avoiding structural failure can depend in part on the ability to predict performance of materials. When required designers have developed sophisticated computer methods for calculating stresses in complex structures using different materials. These computational methods have replaced the oversimplified models of materials behavior relied upon previously. The result is early comprehensive analysis of the effects of temperature, loading rate, environment, and material defects on structural reliability. This information is supported by stress-strain behavior data collected in actual materials evaluations.
