The energy required to initiate an explosion and the maximum explosive pressure developed by a number of polyester—epoxy powder coatings has been studied in some detail (89). The variables studied included composition, level and type of pigmentation, particle size, and concentration in air. The lowest MEG for unfilled and unpigmented powders was 33—35 g/m. ... [Pg.326]

In the field of metallic powder applications, a method of plasma spray coating suitable for biomedical materials has been developed using titanium and calcium phosphate composite powder. By means of the mechanical shock process, the appropriate composite powder was prepared, and plasma sprayed on Ti substrate under a low-pressure argon atmosphere. A porous Ti coating layer was obtained in which the surface and the inside of the pores were covered thinly with hydroxyapatite. This surface coating is expected to show excellent bone ingrowth and fixation with bone (21). [Pg.717]

Wood and wood composites Solid wood as well as particleboard and medium-density fiberboard (MDF) are suitable substrates for powder coating. They tend to emit volatiles such as entrapped air and moisture, and therefore require curing temperatures below 100°C (212°F) and preferably nof higher than 80°C (144°F). A typical curing procedure for MDF is in Table 7.8. [Pg.169]

Powder compositions for making powder coatings are made from a curable resin, such as an epoxy resin, and an agglomerate of a core-shell polymer, such as MMBS (25). [Pg.324]

The cure kinetics of some epoxy resin powder coating composition were reported by Olcese et al.108). These were mixtures of BADGE resins with DICY and an epoxide-amine adduct or an imidazole as accelerator, together with TiOz and plasticisers. Data from DSC scans were analysed using Eq. (2-12) to obtain the apparent activation energy, E. Also Eq. (2-13) and (2-13 a) were used to obtain estimates of E and order... [Pg.144]

A colorless or slightly yellow solid occurring in filamentous, granular, and powdered form. Forms a viscous cnlloidal solution with water, insoluble in alcohol, ether, and chloroform. It is extracted from brown seaweeds. The gum is used as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in foods, especially ice cream. Also used in boiler compounds, pharmaceuticals, textile printing, cement compositions, paper coatings, and in some water-base paints. [Pg.748]

The double microemulsion-mediated process also provides a convenient method for preparing a metal-containing sihcate coating. The two microemulsion systems contained two common components anionic sirrfactant AOT and cyclohexane [134]. The difference was that the first microemulsion consisted of an aqueous solution of sodiirm metasihcate (0.2 M) and 10 wt% SDS as the co-surfactant, while the second microemulsion consisted of an aqueous solution of copper nitrate (0.1 M) and 10 wt% SDS. The copper-ion microemulsion was added to the silicate-ion microemulsion with constant stirring. After 8 h of gel-lation, and ageing for an additional 24 h, copper nitrate crystals were identified within the sihcate network. SUica-copper composite powders with various copper contents (4-20 wt%) and surface areas of 200-400 m /g were synthesized. [Pg.288]
