Composite formability

Composite Formability Assessment The formability of the woven preform composites was evaluated by using a temperature chamber constructed by Russells Technical Products in combination with an Instron mechanical tester (model 4204). Composite samples with a thickness of 1.5 mm were cut to a width of 12.7 mm and isothermally stretched at a rate of 50 mm/min to determine the elongation at break as a function of temperature for temperatures ranging from 100 to 250°C. [Pg.88]

EiaaHy, a new aluminum fire-resistant paneling consists of a composite design that iacludes a soHd thermoplastic compound core covered with a high density polyethylene adhesive film and an aluminum skin. The product is easily formable. It has sound deadening abiHties, and an optional poly(vinyHdene fluoride) resia coatiag provides damage resistance. [Pg.335]

Other alloy additions in commercial use include iron (often a two-layer electroplated coating with less iron—typically 20% —in the under-layer to assist formability and more iron—often 80% —in the outer layer to assist paintability) cobalt (0.15-0.35%) similar amounts of chromium (the zinc/ chromium/chromium-oxide coating known as Zincrox) and a range of ternary alloys and of composite coatings. [Pg.497]

Although more formable than the ferritic alloys, they are not as ductile as the austenitic family of alloys. Welding requires more care than with the austenitic alloys because of a greater tendency toward compositional segregation and sensitivity to weld heat input. Improper fabrication techniques can result in equipment that falls short of expectations for corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. [Pg.791]

The composition ranges of glasses suitable for industrial production are limited by a number of requirements such as satisfactory melting behaviour and formability, suitable final properties, and acceptable price. For example, quartz glass shows... [Pg.32]

Following these considerations the Al3Zr intermetallic compounds are used as dispersoids or precipitates in the Al-Al3Zr composite system, rather than the monolithic ones [7, 8], Many previous works have been concentrated on the microstructural stability, mechanical properties and thermomechanical processing of these kind of systems. Some authors have studied the hot formability of the same alloy by demonstrating the microstructural stability of Zr-stabilized aluminum alloy from 300 and 500 °C [7],... [Pg.170]

Beta 21-S. The Beta 21-S alloy is a relatively new metastable beta alloy (Ref 1). It was designed to have good formability, similar to Ti-15-3, but also has improved oxidation resistance, creep resistance, and high-temperature strength relative to Ti-15-3. Composition ranges and room-temperature tensile properties for Beta 21-S are listed in Tables 7.1 to 7.3. The alloy contains approximately 15% Mo, 3% Al, and 2.8% Nb, with additions of silicon (Ref 1). It is normally provided in the beta solution-treated condition. Beta 21-S has an elastic modulus close to that of bone and hnds use in prosthetic application. It has excellent high-temperature stability and can be used at temperatures up to 290 °C (550 °F). [Pg.126]

Alloy 7039 is essentially a ternary alloy of Al-4%Zn-3%Mg without the appreciable amounts of copper common to the older commercially available aluminum alloys of the 7000 series. Its composition, as registered with the Aluminum Association, is shown in Table I. It has a density of 0.0988 lb/in.3, an electrical conductivity at 68 °F of 35 % I ACS, and a modulus of elasticity at 75°F of 10 x 10 psi. It is heat-treatable, weldable, and has good general and stress corrosion resistance. It can be rolled into sheet or plate and can be extruded or forged. Its formability in the annealed temper is superior to most other heat-treatable aluminum alloys. It is currently undergoing ASTM registration in the -T61 temper. [Pg.112]

Papers are available in many forms varying in thickness, degree of densification, and composition (additive type or floe to fibrid ratio). Pressboards, which differ from paper in thickness and rigidity, are likewise available in several thicknesses and degrees of densification. The product of choice will depend on many factors including end-use thermal and mechanical performance requirements, formability or ease of fabrication, and the desired degree of saturability. [Pg.1016]
