Complex sentence

Avoid complex sentences containing more than one negative. 

The text should be written at the appropriate reading level. The active tense should be used and complex sentences avoided.

Grammar and mechanics Check for typos and errors in spelling, subject-verb agreement, parallelism, and punctuation, paying special attention to your more complex sentences. 

Subject-verb agreement occurs when the subject and verb of a sentence agree in number that is, a singular subject must be accompanied by a singular verb form and a plural subject must be accompanied by a plural verb form. With simple sentences, we usually don t make subject—verb agreement mistakes. However, with more complex sentences, such as those in scientihc writing, errors are more common. The tips below will help you to avoid the most common types of subject-verb agreement errors. 

Bullet points are a handy method for avoiding complex sentence structure and are also convenient for the final user of the document, e.g.,... 

Use a comma after a subordinate clause that precedes the main clause in a complex sentence. 

The (in)formality of each relationship is also reflected in the sentence structure and degree of description and detail. You probably noticed, for example, that letter A uses short, choppy sentences, and exclamation points, which make the letter sound less formal, more urgent, and more demanding. The writer also uses casual words like listen so that the writing sounds conversational. On the other hand, letter B uses longer, more complex sentences to make the letter sound more formal and sophisticated. 

The Skillful rating was given to 8% of the responses to this topic. In such responses, students used detail and elaboration in parts of the response, with transitions to connect ideas. In the response shown above, the student specifies who will be the narrators of the show and the order in which information will be presented The show is about four teenagers, around the ages of fourteen to seventeen who travel around the world. In each show they travel to two cities. When they arrive in the city they will first talk about the city s history and what it is like now in the present. The student also uses the example of Paris as the subject for one show. The student uses complex sentences and transitions (such as When they arrive in the city. .. , For example. . . . ) to tie points together and lead the reader through the essay.

Full stops signal the end of a sentence. They indicate that the writer has completed one complete thought or idea. A full stop can come at the end of a simple or a complex sentence ... 

A COMPLEX SENTENCE consists of two (or more) separate statements joined by words like but and however. It may also contain phrases, starting with words such as which, that, in, because, etc. 

In fuzzy logic, operators such as AND, OR, and NOT are implemented by fuzzy intersection or conjunction (AND), fuzzy union or disjunction (OR), and fuzzy complement (NOT). There are various ways to define these operators, but commonly, AND, OR, and NOT logic operators are implemented by the min, max, and complement operators. The fuzzy truth, T, of a complex sentence is evaluated in this way ... 

Another sentence type is of complex form where an independent clause is joined by one or more dependent clauses by means of words as after , although , because , since , or when or a relative pronoun such as that , which or who . Some of the complex sentences are given below. 

Other special forms of sentences are the ones that imply if.then... implications, which are referred to propositions that include some logical relationship between two clauses. These have the forms of compound or complex sentences. They have scientific content, which correspond to logic rules (Chap. 4). Some of such sentences may be in the following forms. 

Sentence completions test your ability to use the information found in complex, but incomplete, sentences in order to correctly complete the sentences. Sentence completions test two separate aspects of your verbal skills your vocabulary and your ability to follow the internal logic of sentences. These sentences are often quite complex. Fortunately, there are some strategies that will greatly increase your score on these questions. Each of these questions has one blank (or, on some tests, two blanks) within a single sentence. Often the sentences are long and difficult to follow, but with practice you can learn to master them. 

The sentence completion question sets in this book increase in difficulty as you practice your way through them—from easy to intermediate to advanced. These divisions may reflect how challenging the vocabulary is or how complex the sentence structure is or how challenging the logic of the sentence is. 

The more complex the sentence, the more difficult it is to determine noun/verb agreement. Here are some guidelines to help you ... 

Lanthanides properties and general references. For a systematic treatment and general references of the physical and chemical properties of the rare earths and their compounds and alloys mention can be made to a periodical publication in which several contributions to these subjects are being collected. See for instance Gschneidner and Eyring (1978) and Gschneidner etal. (2005). We would also like to quote a sentence, included in the prefaces of all these books, which hints at the complexity and richness of the rare earth behaviour and the ever-increasing interest in their properties and applications. The mentioned sentence is as follows ... 

Let us imagine that the inhnite periodic 3D solid discussed in Section 1.7 is separated into two halves, leading to two semi-inhnite 3D solids, preserving their 3D bulk periodicity but becoming aperiodic in the direction perpendicular to the generated surfaces. Because the translation symmetry is lost in this direction, the Bom-von Karman boundary conditions can no longer be applied, hence the apparent paradox that a semi-infinite problem becomes more complex than the infinite case. This fact inspired W. Pauli to formulate his famous sentence God made solids, but surfaces were the work of the Devil. 

WHEN faced with several courses of aaion, people usually do what they believe is likely to have the best overall outcome. This deceptively simple sentence summarizes the theory of rational choice.
