Special compensation

The operation is quite simple One sets the frequency to the lowest value, adjusts the gain and phase to the desired sensitivity using a special calibration standard discussed below and performs a zero-compensation on a defect free zone of the standard. Now one is ready to test. As one slides the probe across the surface of an aluminum structure, a signal response will be indicative of the presence of corrosion or of the presence of a subsurface edge. [Pg.286]

Requires shielding and special procedures to avoid exposure of personnel to radiation Frequent recahbration is required to compensate for source decay over time Electrical power and power line transient protection required... [Pg.328]

Low pressure presses are usually operated at about 180°C as compared to high pressure presses at about 135°C, but the extra low pressure press heat is not adequate to compensate for the short dwell time. Special fast curing resins must be used in conjunction with the low pressure presses. [Pg.534]

When considering taxes, all types need to be considered initial fees, capital value, corporate rate, personal income tax, sales tax, property tax, unemployment insurance, workmen s compensation, and nuisance tax. During the constmction phase, several types of taxes may be levied. These include building permits, special fees, assessments, and sewer connection fees. [Pg.88]

Standard materials for the compressor are cast iron for the cylinder and carbon steel for the shaft. The rotor parts are steel. The liquid pistf f compressor has another feature that compensates for low efficiency, using special materials of construction and compatible liquid compr sant, unusual or difficult gases may be compressed. By using titanium internal materials and water as a compressant, gases containing wet chlorine can be compressed. This is a very difficult application for most o( the other compressor types. [Pg.131]

In order to compensate for shrinkage, special techniques are required in the manufacture of rod. In one process, vertical aluminium tubes are filled with syrup and slowly lowered into a water bath at 40°C. As the lowest level of syrup polymerises, it contracts and the higher levels of syrup thus sink down the tube, often under pressure from a reservoir of syrup feeding into the tubes. [Pg.403]

Calendering can achieve surprising accuracy on the thickness of a sheet. Typically the tolerance is 0.005 mm but to achieve this it is essential to have very close control over roll temperatures, speeds and proximity. In addition, the dimensions of the rolls must be very precise. The production of the rolls is akin to the manufacture of an injection moulding tool in the sense that very high machining skills are required. The particular features of a calender roll are a uniform specified surface finish, minimal eccentricity and a special barrel profile ( crown ) to compensate for roll deflection under the very high presurres developed between the rolls. [Pg.315]

The requirements for successful operation are a stable operating voltage of between 400 and 3000 V. The sensitivity of the photomultipliers is also dependent on this if a special compensation is not incorporated. [Pg.26]

Apparatus for carrying out hydrogenation at several atmospheres can be constructed readily (1,78,93), but there seems little point in this exercise since good commercial equipment is available. The most commonly used commercial low-pressure equipment is the Parr hydrogenator (manufactured by Parr Instrument Co., Moline, Illinois). This equipment (Fig. 1) has withstood the test of time it was first described in 1922 and offered commercially in 1926. It comes in two sizes one for 500-ml reactor bottles and one for 1000-and 2000-ml reactor bottles. Specially made smaller bottles, down to 50 ml, can be used also but require special holders to compensate for differences in bottle heights. Shaker bottles should not be more than half full to ensure good mixing, a consideration in selection of bottle size. [Pg.18]

The square law relationship also implies that the instrument measures RMS values. It can be used on either A.C. (up to the lower audio range if special compensating circuits are employed) or D.C. The instrument reading can be... [Pg.237]

A bolometer is essentially a thin blackened platinum strip in an evacuated glass vessel with a window transparent to the infrared rays it is connected as one arm of a Wheatstone bridge, and any radiation absorbed raises the temperature of the strip and changes its resistance. Two identical elements are usually placed in the opposite arms of a bridge one of the elements is in the path of the infrared beam and the other compensates for variations in ambient temperature. Both the above receptors give a very small direct current, which may be amplified by special methods to drive a recorder. [Pg.746]

Because the two analytical lines differ in wavelength, an internal standard can never compensate absorption and enhancement effects completely. If Cases II and IV %re avoided in selecting ah internal standard, the use of such a standard will usually prove satisfactory. Special cases may require special calibration curves run with the disturbing elements present. [Pg.190]

The semiempirical methods represent a real alternative for this research. Aside from the limitation to the treatment of only special groups of electrons (e.g. n- or valence electrons), the neglect of numerous integrals above all leads to a drastic reduction of computer time in comparison with ab initio calculations. In an attempt to compensate for the inaccuracies by the neglects, parametrization of the methods is used. Meaning that values of special integrals are estimated or calibrated semiempirically with the help of experimental results. The usefulness of a set of parameters can be estimated by the theoretical reproduction of special properties of reference molecules obtained experimentally. Each of the numerous semiempirical methods has its own set of parameters because there is not an universial set to calculate all properties of molecules with exact precision. The parametrization of a method is always conformed to a special problem. This explains the multiplicity of semiempirical methods. [Pg.179]

If the acting force causes a roll deflection which exceeds a certain lateral displacement of the roll the thickness gradient across the calendered product might be beyond the required value which means that a calender shall include some special devices to compensate this roll deflection. Some well-known devices are... [Pg.1007]

A special aspect of this description appears if one starts the orbital optimisation process with orbitals obtained by linear combinations ofRHF orbitals of the isolated atoms (LCAO approximation s.str.). Let Pn.opt and be the starting and final orbitals of such a calculation. Then the difference between c n.opi and Papt in the vicinity of each atom merely consists in a distortion of the atomic orbitals of each atom. This distortion just compensates the contribution of the orbitals of the other atoms to Pn.ctpt in order to restore the proportionality between the partial waves of ipopi and the appropriate atomic orbital. [Pg.36]

The resultant force F is compensated by the reaction of the thread and, correspondingly, it does not influence the motion of the mass. In general, the total torque T has arbitrary direction, but we will be interested in only its vertical component, that causes a rotation in the horizontal plane. At the same time special measures are taken to remove an influence of motion in the vertical plane. [Pg.210]
