Compatibility with existing computer

If there is no restriction placed on the proposal by having to use the current in-house computer system, the choices of hard ware/software packages are numerous. The software must be user friendly, complementary to existing systems to avoid duplication of asset registering, etc., and have the facility to expand (i.e. have other programs (modules) that enable greater use be made of the information held within the system). The program should also be compatible with any in-house computer system where possible. [Pg.789]

The overall design process depends on the use of codes of practice and specifications, and to an increasing extent on computer-based techniques. The potential cost of delay is therefore a strong incentive to the use of standard solutions, compatible with the codes of practice , and to develop ways of using the computer to provide corrosion information and knowledge, or to improve prediction of corrosion behaviour. Note that both points relate to the use of existing knowledge, in the sense of an important conclusion of the Hoar Report. ... [Pg.6]

The purpose of the present work is to claim that a third method exists in quantum chemistry for the dynamical conformational analysis of large molecules. We challenged that it would be possible to design such a new route by skilfully using a very simple micro-computing dynamic system in order to reduce the n-dimensional problem to a much smaller one, the size of which would be then compatible with the currently low budget of an academic laboratory. [Pg.72]

Several major differences existed between this scheme and one compatible with the PBR facilities. The PBR did not have an operating pneumatic transfer irradiation facility, nor was there a sophisticated y-ray spectrum analysis and data reduction computer program available. Irradiation facilities at PBR were hydraulic. Aluminum capsules (rabbits) were used to contain and transfer samples to and from the core. [Pg.107]

One special case exists for interrupts when configuring them. You will notice that some interrupts are cascaded to each other. What this means is that in an ISA system, when the computer needs to access an interrupt higher than 9, it uses IRQ 2 to get to it. This method ensures backward compatibility with 8-bit buses. [Pg.204]

We must judge whether the experimental domain space exists within the simplex factor space, whether the upper and lower limits are compatible with one another, and if the domain is a simplex. Rules and equations for the general case are given by Cornell (1) and Piepel (6). However, although they are mathematically simple, in practice we use a computer program. Here we consider the 3-component example shown in figure 9.15 ... [Pg.392]

All communication relies on the existence of sets of rules or protocols that govern what form the communication may take and how it will be understood. Computer communication generally requires a very tightly defined rule set. The transmission control protocol (TCP), which is universal across the Internet, defines how data is reliably transmitted and received by Internet hosts. It does not define how those hosts manipulate the data they send or receive. The Web requires a mechanism whereby a browser can request a document and a server can deliver it. This type of interchange will also require a server to reply that a document (for a variety of reasons) is unavailable. The protocol that enables such interchanges is HTTP. This was built on top of the Internet s TCP protocol (it was, however, designed to be compatible with other similar protocols). [Pg.342]

Is the product compatible with the user s existing I/O devices If computer-based, can it be operated without a pointing device such as trackball or mouse Will it interface with a voice dictation system W at about speech output Can keystroke commands be entered sequentially For example, pressing the Control, Alternate, and Elelete buttons simultaneously is impossible for many people. - ... [Pg.812]

Therefore, the interoperability problem makes major decisions of IT managers difficult when looking for a new application, where the criteria for choice must be balanced between (1) an application that completely fiiffills their needs and (2) an application for electronic data exchange already compatible and ready to be integrated with the existent computational environment. Yet, even when conformance in data format and access is achieved and verified reliable interoperability of information semantics generally is not. [Pg.135]

Recognizing the importance of the true stress-strain test and the need for specimen diameter measurements during tests where the material deforms by a series of discontinuous yields, the Watertown Arsenal Laboratories contracted with A, D. Little, Inc. [1] to construct a tensile test cryostat capable of measuring and recording instantaneous diameter data to be compatible with an existing true-stress true-strain computer [2]. [Pg.577]

With the extensive use of plastics in devices such as computers, medical devices, and communication equipment the issue of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) exists that in turn relate to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI). [Pg.316]

We have recently introduced a combined structural, computational, and experimental approach for the de novo design of novel inhibitors such as variants of the synthetic cyclic peptide Compstatin. A novel two-stage computational protein design method is used not only to select and rank sequences for a particular fold but also to validate the stability of the fold for these selected sequences. To correctly select a sequence compatible with a given backbone template that is flexible and represented by several NMR structures, an appropriate energy function must first be identified. The proposed sequence selection procedure is based on optimizing a pairwise distance-dependent interaction potential. A number of different parameterizations for pairwise residue interaction potentials exist the one employed here is based on the discretization of alpha carbon distances into a set of 13 bins to create a finite number of interactions, the parameters of which were derived from a linear optimization formulated to favor native folds over... [Pg.122]

After the operations within each clusters have been serialized, the clusters are linearly ordered compatible with the original partial order. This linear order can be constructed in linear-time with respect to the number of clusters. The order in which the clusters are visited and resolved is important Therefore, if the above steps fail to find a valid ordering, then this order can be changed and the above steps repeated. By Theorem 6.2.1 and Lemma 6.2.3, a solution to conflict resolution implies that a valid relative schedule exists. In this case, the binding is known to be valid and the iterative incremental scheduling algorithm can be performed to compute the time offsets. [Pg.175]

By no means do we claim that the SMD format to be presented here will cover all information explicitly that will ever be used in computer chemistry. But it is designed in an entirely modular form thus permitting definition and addition of completely new information without affecting the existing structures. This unique feature provides an extreme flexibility which ensures a nearly unlimited upward compatibility with respect to future developments. [Pg.106]
