Combinations of aluminum

A combination of aluminum chlorohydrate and a polyamine, such as poly (diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride), in aqueous solution is effective at elevated temperatures for an oil-in-water emulsion [787]. [Pg.338]

V. Galvanic Action Electric Currents are those caused when dissimilar metals contact each other directly or thru a conductive medium. For example, when in seismic shooting an aluminum loading pole replaced the heavier wooden pole, two premature explns took place. This happened because the combination of aluminum and its steel casing in the alkaline drilling mud formed a sort of battery... [Pg.680]

Exercise 22-14 Aluminum chloride is a much more powerful catalyst than ferric bromide for bromination of benzene. Would you expect the combination of aluminum chloride and bromine to give much chlorobenzene in reaction with benzene Explain. [Pg.1047]

Although the obvious method of preparing a binary compound would seem to be to bring the two elements together, such a procedure is not very often followed. Aluminum and sulphur can be made to combine directly, it is true, but when the finely divided substances are mixed and the mixture is heated, either the sulphur entirely distils off without any reaction taking place, or if a reaction starts it is too violent to control. We have, therefore, selected lead sulphide as a source of the sulphide radical because this substance is not volatile and cannot escape before it reacts, and the reaction is not too violent. A part of the energy furnished by the combination of aluminum and sulphur is expended in separating lead and sulphur. [Pg.149]

In contrast to the preparations for NaTFA, the preparation of KTFA appears much more certain. KTFA can be prepared from a combination of aluminum hydroxide, hydrofluoric acid, and potassium hydroxide [Eq. (5)]. The salt could be isolated as a precipitate and dried under vacuum at 80 °C. It was found to have a melting point of 546-550 °C by differential scanning calorimetry [40]. [Pg.186]

Use electron dot diagrams to picture the combination of aluminum and oxygen atoms. [Pg.150]

Numerous important mixed oxide phases are formed by the combination of aluminum oxide and one or more other metal oxides. The foremost of these from an industrial viewpoint are spinels, jS-aluminas, and tricalcium aluminate, an important constituent of Portland cement. [Pg.139]

Currently, the best way is to use single dose contained in a folded paper (in community pharmacy) or sachets filled with the same accuracy as a tablet or capsule by a fully automatic machine. The sachet is made of paper, aluminum, and/or complex mixtures that are a combination of aluminum and plastic substances. [Pg.2977]

Metal oxide nanocomposites were synthesized by electrical discharge method using a combination of aluminum and copper electrodes submerged into water. The crystal structure, lattice parameters and grain size of the nanopowders were determined by XRD using Cu K radiation (Fig. 3b). The XRD pattern exhibited the presence of cubic copper with a lattice constant of 0.3615 nm, as well as aluminum and copper oxide and hydroxide phases. The positions of all peaks were in agreement with the JCPDS standards. [Pg.335]

The combination of aluminum Lewis acids and chiral diols has allowed for modest enantioselectivities in similar reactions using oxazolidinone templates and a-iodopropionate substrate as in Eq. (13.30) [42]. The 4,4-dimethyl substituent on the oxazolidinone (99) favors the s-cis conformation for the intermediate radical. Enantioselectivities of 32 and 34% and yields above 90% were obtained for ally-lations with R=H and R=Me respectively. [Pg.522]

Cement is made from a mix ture of limestone and clay. The most important minerals in clay are the combinations of aluminum, oxygen, and silicon known as aluminum silicates. [Pg.167]

Other catalysts have also been reported. These are based on combinations of aluminum compounds with molybdenum (Natta et al., 1959d), chromium (Natta, 1960 Bawn et al., 1964), or... [Pg.252]

Some plants use combinations of aluminum and copper conductor. Aluminum may be used for the main bus or large sections and copper for electrolyzer connections, where it is more important to keep the components small. Prefabricated transition pieces should be used to minimize contact resistances. In these pieces, the two metals can be joined by explosion bonding. [Pg.732]

Insulation of the substrate through a combination of aluminum oxide (derived from ATH when it loses water) with the char formed. [Pg.321]

A new method has recently been described for the preparation of nitriles from carboxamides or carbaldoximes using a combination of aluminum chloride and sodium iodide (AlCls/Nal) [1139]. The conversion of 1 equiv. of amide or oxime requires 2 equiv. of AICI3 and 6 equiv. of Nal. Reactions are performed in refluxing acetonitrile, the reaction time is 2.5 h, and yields are quoted as 80-95%. [Pg.392]

Alternatively, aqueous solutions of fluorinated emulsifiers can be treated in a flow reactor using a catalyst bed consisting of metal oxides, for example, a combination of aluminum and nickel oxides. Using elevated temperatures and a sufficiently long contact time, emulsifiers like APFO or APFDO (see below) can be reduced from 800 mass ppm to about 10 mass ppm or less. The destruction of fluorinated emulsifier can be detected by testing the catalyst for absorbed emulsifier. This includes treatment of the catalyst with a mixture of hydrochloric acid, methanol, and water. The absence of detectible emulsifier leads to the conclusion that the fluorinated acids had been destroyed [45]. [Pg.506]
