Intermediate storage tanks will normally be needed to smooth out fluctuations in column operation and process upsets. These tanks should be sized to give sufficient hold-up time for smooth operation and control. The hold-up time required will depend on the nature of the process and on how critical the operation is some typical values for distillation processes are given below  [Pg.616]

The experiments were conducted in an absorption column, which is made of acrylic plastic and enwrapped by thermal insulation material. If the column, auxiliaries, and piping are properly insulated, and if the column is properly controlled, ambient changes should cause little diflSculty unless the condenser is of the air-cooled type. In this event it may be desirable to use an internal reflux computer, discuss in Chapter 11. Electrochemical Detectors Another common group of HPLC detectors are those based on electrochemical measurements such as amperometry, voltammetry, coulometry, and conductivity. Four different electrokinetic processes are known. Two of them, electroosmosis and electrophoresis, were described in 1809 by Ferdinand Friedrich Renss, a professor at the University of Moscow.
