Coir

Coir is an abundant, versatile, renewable, cheap, and biodegradable Hgnocellulosic fiber, which is used for making a wide variety of products [326]. Coir also has applications as filler or reinforcement in different composite materials [327-330]. [Pg.49]

It is a fibrous material. Coir is found between the hard, internal shell, and the outer coat of a coconut Other uses of brown coir (made from ripe coconut) are in upholstery padding, sacking, and horticulture. White coir, harvested from unripe coconuts, is used for making finer brushes, string, rope, and fishing nets. [Pg.49]

Erosion control blankets are used on slopes and disturbed soils where mulch must be anchored and other methods such as crimping or tackifying are neither feasible nor adequate. They are used on steep slopes, generally steeper than 3 1, and slopes where erosion hazard is high their use is especially appropriate for critical slopes adjacent to sensitive areas, such as streams and wetlands, and disturbed soil areas, where planting is likely to be slow in providing adequate protective cover. [Pg.49]

Natural mbber latex is also used in adhesives for tape, packaging, envelopes, and in the footwear industry. It is used in the carpet industry as a binder for backing compounds, but this is another area in which synthetic SBR latex has competed effectively. There are a number of relatively small and specialized appHcations for natural mbber latex including mbberized coir or hair and cast products such as toys. Latex sheeting which is used in dental dams and for numerous other purposes can be made by dipping or casting onto a continuous belt. [Pg.274]

MEX and SUB are optional commands. MEX command must precede the SUB coir The MEX command sets to false, basic events that are pairwise mutually exclusive. For th command, the user identifies sets of basic events within cutsets (original sets) that are to be re by another set of basic events (substituted sets). The SUB command accounts for basic events cutsets that have either a common cause or statistical dependency. [Pg.456]

Brucinolone, C21H22O5N2. This substance is produced from brucine, in the same way as strychninolone (see above) from strychnine, via brucinonie acid, (MeO)2(CijHj5)(N—C0)2(C0)(0—CH2—CO2H), (colourless prisms, with IH2O, m.p. 178-183° (corr.) or 266° (dry, corr., dee.), [a] ° - 48-5°) and its reduction product brucinolic acid, m.p. 250-1° (coir.,... [Pg.571]

The truck driver left the tractor, ran from the accident site in the direction the truck had coir from, and warned approaching traffic. The driver of a first arriving car stopped and tried to back up his car, but another car blocked his path. The occupants of these cars got out of their vehicles. Three occupants of nearby houses at a distance of 60 m (195 ft), near the creek and about 20 m (60 ft) below the truck, fled after hearing the crash. [Pg.25]

Analog-to-glass fibers silanes are used as coupling agents for natural fiber polymer composites. For example, the treatment of wood fibers with product A-175 improves wood dimensional stability [53]. In contrast, a decrease of mechanical properties was observed for coir-UP composites after a fiber modification with di-chloromethylvinyl silane [54]. The treatment of mercer-... [Pg.798]

Aside from SMC molded plastics, BMC molded natural fiber plastics with good mechanical properties can be produced. Owolabi et al. [59] made such plastics with coir fibers, their basic recipe is shown in Table II. [Pg.802]

In this examination, glass fibers were replaced by coir fibers. A proper treatment of the fibers improved adhesion and, therefore, tensile strength was increased (Fig. 18). [Pg.802]

Several of these natural fiber composites reach the mechanical properties of glass fiber composites, they are already being used in the automobile and furniture industries. Up to now, the most important natural fibers were jute, flax, and coir. [Pg.809]

Second-order NLO processes, including SFG, are strictly forbidden in media with inversion symmetry under the electric dipole approximation and are allowed only at the interface between these media where the inversion symmetry is necessarily broken. In the IR-Visible SFG measurement, a visible laser beam (covis) and a tunable infrared laser beam (cOir) are overlapped at an interface and the SFG signal is measured by scanning cOir while keeping cOvis constant. The SFG intensity (Isfg) is enhanced when coir becomes equal to the vibration levels of the molecules at the interface. Thus, one can obtain surface-specific vibrational spectra at an interface... [Pg.72]

As shown in this equation, the angle of emission changes as cOir is scanned. [Pg.75]

From the above equation, it is clear that PijR takes a maximum value when the IR frequency is in resonance with the molecular vibration, that is, cOir = (Oq, and only the molecular vibration, which is both IR- and Raman-active is SFG-active. [Pg.76]

The presence of a PHA synthase alone is not sufficient to allow synthesis of PHAs. PHA biosynthesis will not occur if genes encoding enzymes required for the synthesis of hydroxyacyl-coenzyme A thioesters are absent or if the pathways constituted by these enzymes are for whatever reason not functionally active. This becomes evident, for example, when a PHA synthase gene is expressed in wild type or normal laboratory strains of E. coir, even if a functionally active PHA synthase is expressed, no or only traces of PHAs are accumulated. [Pg.103]
