IFN-co (Intarcia Therapeutics, Emeryville, California) has been reported to be well tolerated and safe, in patients infected with various HCV genotypes, at doses of 15-120pg three times weekly for 12 weeks, with dose-dependent virological and biochemical responses (Plauth et al. 2002). At a dose of 25 pg daily, IFN-co induced a 2-log HCV RNA dechne at week 12 in two-thirds of 74 patients infected with HCV genotype 1 (Gorbakov et al. 2005). In a recent trial, SVR was achieved in 6% and 36% of patients receiving the same dose of IFN-O) without and with ribavirin, respectively (Novozhenov et al. 2007). A new trial of IFN-m, delivered continuously by an implantable device, will start soon.

The c(4 x 2)-2CO structure observed20 at Ni(lll) at room temperature has CO occupying both fee and hep threefold hollow adsorption sites with a surface coverage of 0.5 ML. So as to maximise the 0-0 distance, the molecular axis is tilted away from the surface normal towards atop positions. Corrugation of the adlayer is attributed to a CO-induced buckling of the surface nickel atoms, which is manifested by height differences between adjacent CO molecules (Figure 8.6).

The Pauson-Khand reaction is the Co-induced formation of cyclopentenones from ene-ynes and CO. One impressive example of a domino Pauson-Khand process is the synthesis of fenestrane 6/4-15, as reported by Keese and colleagues [278]. The transformation is initiated by a double Grignard reaction of 4-pentynoic acid 6/4-12, followed by protection of the formed tertiary hydroxyl group to give 6/4-13. The Co-induced polycyclization of 6/4-13 led directly to the fenestrane 6/4-15...

A monocarbonyl complex of zirconocene has been proposed by Floriani and co-workers as a transient intermediate in the carbonylation of the bridging oxymethylene complex (Cp2ZrCl)2(Ai-CH20) (57) (104,105). The assignment of 58 as the proposed intermediate to the final carbonylation product, [Cp2Zr(/i-CHO=CHO)]2 (59), was based on the appearance of a metal carbonyl band at 1970 cm-1 together with the subsequent CO-induced loss of Cp2ZrCl2. 

If PAH-degrading microorganisms use broad-specificity enzymes or common pathways to transform multiple PAHs, then inducers for the metabolism of one PAH substrate might co-induce the transformation of a range of PAHs. Preliminary evidence indicated that the transformation of naphthalene, phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene by Pseudomonas saccharophila P15 was stimulated by salicylate [132], a known inducer of naphthalene metabolism in pseudomonads [43]. The reaction mechanisms for water vapors do not only influence the sensor resistance but also the detection of CO. A promotion of CO-induced reactions is observed.
