Communication clinical development plan

Carol had hired a local clinical pharmacist who had expertise in ambulatory care as a consultant to assist with the pharmacists education and skills development. The clinical consultant facilitated the case discussions. The cases that were developed for this program required pharmacists to assess and modify patients dietary habits and activity levels. Also, they needed to identify and develop plans for resolving drug therapy problems. They practiced writing recommendations to physicians on the physician communication form. 

There are certain personal attributes over and above a medical degree and clinical experience that make for a successful pharmaceutical physician. To be valued, the pharmaceutical physician must be able to provide insight into the clinical benefit, and hence the commercial potential, of a compound at any stage in its development. He or she must also have the planning skills to realise that potential, and an ability to communicate at all levels, both inside and outside the company. The scenario begun in Chapter 3 continues here. In brief, Ted Thompson is a clinical pharmacist at a medium-sized community hospital. Ted has just finished participating in the process of developing astrate-gic plan for the pharmacy department. Included in the 5-year plan is a goal for the department to develop successful clinical pharmacy service programs and, where possible, to generate revenue from those programs. 

Biostatistics has been recognized and extensively employed as an indispensable tool for planning, conduct, and interpretation of clinical trials. In clinical research and development the biostatistician plays an important role that contributes toward the success of clinical trials. Well-prepared and open communication among clinicians, biostatisticians, and other related clinical research scientists will result in a successful clinical trial.
