Client contacts should be notified of issues in a timely manner. Depending upon the nature and gravity of the issue, tolling may be stopped completely for a period of time or continue in limited production mode until the situation is fully diagnosed and corrective action can be implemented. 

Many therapists use e-mail to interact with clients. The advantages to this process are that e-mail maximizes client access to the therapist while minimizing the intrusion of client contact into the therapist s personal time. Homework assignments can be discussed and clarified between sessions, and between-session questions answered. In addition, e-mail introduces the possibility that a client can access a therapist hundreds or even thousands of miles away. I am a firm believer that face-to-face therapy is ideal for many important reasons (e.g., developing the therapeutic alliance), but in those instances in which clients are isolated from good care, e-mail therapy can be a very attractive option. This option allows the possibility for equal access to the best available treatment and therapy resources even if those resources are not available to the client locally. In addition, as interactive telephones become more standard, therapy by phone may allow distance therapy to become more personalized, and this medium may ultimately supplant e-mail as a way to seek therapy from a distance. 

Client Contact This type of work brings you in direct contact with the clients served by the organization. It often means daily contact with the down-and-out or the physically or mentally ill. This work is not for everyone, but those who enjoy doing it generally reap the greatest rewards. 

Administrative Support This involves the wide variety of office work required to keep an agency operating. This work is every bit as important as client contact work. If it were not done by volunteers, someone would have to be hired to do it, thus diverting money from the agency s primary mission.

Another popular problem-oriented recording format used in many healthcare facilities today is the DAP (data, assessment, and plan) format. A brief format, the DAP encourages healthcare social workers and other professionals to identify only the most salient elements of a worker s client contact. Using the D (Data), social workers record objective client data and client statements related to the presenting problem and the focus of the therapeutic contact. The A (Assessment) is used to record the social worker s interventions, the client s reactions to the interventions, and the worker s assessment of the client s overall progress. Specific information on all tasks, actions, or plans related to the presenting problem and to be carried out by either the client or the worker is recorded under P (Plan). Information is also recorded here on issues related to the presenting problem that will be explored at the next session and the specific date and time of the next appointment.
