Classification and Significance

This chapter will review classification and significance, diagnosis and treatment options for different types of endoleak. 

MAO Is have not been evaluated systematically for treatment of PD under the current diagnostic classification and generally are reserved for patients who are refractory to other treatments.48,49 MAOIs have significant side effects that limit adherence. Additionally, patients must adhere to dietary restriction of tyramine and avoid sympathomimetic drugs to avoid hypertensive crisis.

In accordance with the recommendation of the Commission of the International Union of Biochemistry [R. H. S. Thompson, Classification and nomenclature of enzymes and coenzymes, Nature 193, 1227 (1902)] the terms NAD and NADP have been used instead of DPN and TPN, except in Fig. 4. The generic term nicotinamide nucleotides is used with the same significance as pyridine nucleotides. 

Since there are two primary neurotransmitters involved in autonomic discharge, there are two primary classifications of postsynaptic receptors. Cholinergic receptors are located at acetylcholine synapses, and adrenergic receptors are located at norepinephrine synapses. As indicated in Figure 18-2, each type of receptor has several subclassifications. The location and functional significance of these classifications and subclassifications are presented here. 

This serves as an example of the extremes one can go if one tmly wants to better understand the process and the form of the compound in the product. This approach is less important for detecting polymorphic form conversion in the solid state, since polymorphic solubility typically varies by less than a factor of two and tablets at very low strength would generally be classified as a type one by the biopharmaceutical classification system. In addition, polymorphs rarely have pronounced differences in chemical stability. On the other hand, if a compound is somewhat unstable and significant amount of amorphous material is potentially present, this approach can be used to determine if it is responsible for drug instability in the tablet formulation. In any event, this reference serves as a very good example of the strength of a powerful approach that has not been widely applied in our industry. 

Boyles contributions to chemistry were numerous and significant. He advanced chemical classification a long way, and his category of neutral substances was valuable for an understanding of the chemistry of salts. Making chemistry a respectable part of natural philosophy was of great importance. The experimental method that Boyle devised, with its emphasis on evidence, repeatability, public verification, quantification, and the use of pure materials, was of even greater importance. His mechanical explanations, however, were ultimately sterile.
