Class desk

In the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) branch of the U.S. Navy, the class desk is the program manager (PM) for systems engineering for an acquisition program. In an operational program, the class desk is the systems engineering PM involved in system upgrades, replacement components, and safety problems that arise in the fleet. 

Nick, our tiny, amazing Nick, was born on a Tuesday evening in April. We came home from the hospital on Thursday, and on Saturday I sent my first work e-mail. At our childbirth class, they d told you to sleep when the baby did. That obviously was not going to happen. I d nurse, and Nick would get woozy, and we d swaddle him and put him in the bassinet. Then I d go to my desk and work until he cried. I d nurse again, maybe on the couch, which my mother had covered with receiving blankets. My husband, Mike, would slip a pillow under my arm for support, like the lactation consultant had suggested at the hospital. I d watch Nick, our tender baby creature, and then I d hand him to Mike and return to my screen. 

But I never, and I mean never, dream of sitting at my desk, writing a paper, or reading a review critical of my grant application, even though I have those candidate dream stimuli all the time. Why don t they enter into my dreams They are certainly emotionally salient. They concern survival, attack, defence, and all the rest. In other words, a scientific dream theory has to explain why a whole class of emotionally salient experiences cannot be a dream stimulus. Instead of these themes, I dream of related problems, which rarely, if ever, happen. 

At the end of class, Ava Helen stormed up to his desk. You are my chemistry instructor, so of course I expect you to teach me some chemistry, she snapped, but I don t expect you to teach me anything else. Then she turned her back and marched off. 

A number of sets of the Classification Manual are located at a desk near the 14th Street entrance. There is also a complete set of class definitions in loose-leaf binders, arranged in numerical order at the start and close of each business day. Nearby is an important card file, listing the class and subclass of every United States patent (the entries are in pencil). 

Even when teacher has to move from his desk his power of control over the class should be such that students continue their work satisfactorily.

I did a broadcast that evening from Radio Ankara. The arrangements were very good and the equipment first-class. The signal from New York came in clear as a bell. After the broadcast New York came in again on the feedback and Ed Bliss, at the news desk at 485 Madison, told me that George Polk had disappeared, had not been heard from for days.

On that Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, I was seated at my desk in Ma Brown s boardinghouse on 16th Street, just around the corner from Wisconsin Avenue, in Milwaukee. My old Philco, with its low-fidelity four-inch speaker, was tuned down to filter in soft background music as I reviewed class notes.
