Ciba-Geigy System

Measurement of Whiteness. The Ciba-Geigy Plastic White Scale is effective in the visual assessment of white effects (79), but the availabihty of this scale is limited. Most evaluations are carried out (ca 1993) by instmmental measurements, utilising the GIF chromaticity coordinates or the Hunter Uniform Color System (see Color). Spectrophotometers and colorimeters designed to measure fluorescent samples must have reversed optics, ie, the sample is illuminated by a polychromatic source and the reflected light passes through the analy2er to the detector. 

Ophthalmic dmg dehveiy systems (qv) have been developed to dehvei controlled dmg quantities for a prolonged time (up to seven days) to the eye, eg, pilocarpine [92-13-7J (17). Alza Corp. in conjunction with Ciba-Geigy Corp. originally marketed such a product known as Ocusert to treat glaucoma. 

Commercial BMI Resins. Since the late 1960s, bismaleimide resins have been commercially available. The first company in the marketplace was Rhc ne Poulenc Chimie, Erance. Several others, Technochemie, Germany CIBA GEIGY, Switzerland DSM, The Netherlands, BASE, West Germany Mitsubishi Gas Chemicals and MitsuiToatsu, both of Japan Reichhold and Polyorganics from the United States and Shell Chemical Company, United States (through the acquisition of Technochemie by Deutsche Shell AG), followed. Some of them lost interest in this speciaUty market sector. Table 13 indicates the BMI resins available at the end of 1992. No reference is made to prepreg systems available from various sources. Habitrol (102), co-developed by Lohmarin Therapie Systeme and Ciba-Geigy Ltd., and marketed by Ciba-Geigy, consists of an impermeable backiag laminate with a layer of adhesive and a nonwoven pad to which a nicotine solution is appHed (103). Multiple layers of adhesive on a release liner are then laminated on the patch. The systems come ia 10, 20, and 30 cm sizes corresponding to 7, 14, and 21 mg/day, respectively, deUvered over 24 hours. 

Membrane permeation-controlled system in which the drug permeation is controlled by a polymeric membrane Transderm-Scop (scopolamine Ciba-Geigy). 

The fluorine content, density, critical surface energy, glass transitions, thermal expansion coefficient above and below the glass transition, and 300°C isothermal thermogravimetric stabilities of the fluoromethylene cyanate ester resin system with n = 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 are summarized Table 2.2. Also included for the purpose of comparison are the corresponding data for the aromatic cyanate ester resin based on the dicyanate of 6F bisphenol A (AroCy F, Ciba Geigy). 

Ciba-Geigy [23] has investigated other methine pigments, including bismethine compounds with one or two nonhalogenated isoindolinone ring systems. 

In the early eighties, Ciba-Geigy discovered a new type of heterocyclic pigments, based on a symmetric chromophor, the 1,4-diketopyrrolo(3,4c)pyrrole system (141) (R = alkyl, aryl, Cl, Br, CF3) ... 

Materials Description. Three CIBA-GEIGY epoxy/hardener systems were studied Araldite 6010/906, Araldite 6010/HY 917 and Araldite 6010/972 with stoichiometries 100/80, 100/80 and 100/27, respectively. Araldite 6010 was a DGEBA epoxy resin. The hardeners 906, HY 917 and 972 were, respectively, methyl nadic anhydride (MNA), methyltetrahydro phthalic anhydride (MTPHA) and methylene dianiline (MDA). These systems were investigated previously for the matrix controlled fracture in composites (6-8). The curing cycles used can be found in (6). The ideal chemical structures of the systems are shown in Table I. Neat resins were thoroughly degassed and cast into 1.27 cm thick plates for preparation of test specimens.

Ritalin has been hailed by many parents and teachers as a miracle pill once described by its makers (Novartis, formerly Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals) as a mild central nervous system stimulant and by the New York Times as a mild stimulant that is roughly [equivalent to] a jolt of strong coffee. 24 These statements belie the fact that Ritalin has been known, since it was first marketed in the mid-1950s, to be a highly addictive drug subject to widespread abuse.
