CHROMIC OXYCHLORIDE (14977-61-8) A powerful oxidizer. Violent reaction with water, producing hydrochloric and chromic acids, and chlorine gas. Potentially violent and explosive reaction with reducing agents, acetone, alcohols, calcium sulfide, combustible materials, gaseous or liquid ammonia, ethers, nonmetal halides, fuels, nonmetal hydrides, fluorine, organic matter, organic solvents, phosphorus, phosphorus trichloride, sodium azide, elemental sulfur, sulfur monochloride, turpentine, urea. Decomposes slowly in light. [Pg.320]

Hydroxymethylpyridazines are easily oxidized with selenium dioxide to the corresponding aldehydes. Oxidation of the corresponding secondary alcohols with chromic acid in aqueous sulfuric acid gives ketones, while oxidation of a hydroxymethyl group with permanganate leads to the pyridazinecarboxylic acids. Hydroxymethyl groups are converted into chloromethyl groups with thionyl chloride or phosphorus oxychloride. [Pg.32]

It is thought by some that the metal acts as a tetravalent element in chromium dioxide, CrOa, but this compound may also be considered as a basic chromic chromate, CrgOg-CrOg. Chromium appears to function as a pentavalent element in the oxychloride, CrOClg, and its derivatives. The perchromic adds and perchromates have Jong been thought to contain heptavalent chromium, but it would appear that... [Pg.21]

Chlorides.—Two chlorides and one oxychloride of chromium are known. Chromoue chloride, CrCl, is a white solid, soluble with a blue color in H,0. Chromic chloride, (Cr,)Cl, forms large, red crystals, insoluble in H,0 when pure. [Pg.127]
