Choline, sulphate

In soils nearly 50% of the total sulphur is found in the hydroiodic acid reducible fraction , consisting of sulphate esters, which are probably in part polysaccharide sulphates (e.g. condroitin sulphate), keratin sulphates, choline sulphate, and arylsulphates (Zinder and Brock, 1978b). The heteropolysaccharide sulphates, which are also reported from msirine species (e.g. Torres-Pombo et al., 1969 Abdel-Fattah et al., 1973 Batey and Turvey, 1975), serve mainly as structural materials reaccessible to the marine sulphur cycle as SO ", depending on the ability of microorganisms, plants, and mammals to produce enzymes (sulphhydrolases) to hydrolyze these esters (Fitzgerald, 1978). [Pg.404]

A comparison of the activities of these three alkaloids lias been made by Graliam and Gunn using their antagonism to the effects of carbamjd-choline chloride on isolated mammalian intestine. Francis placed strips of the retina from different animals in sodium sulphate to precipitate the cholinesterase in situ. Some strips were then incubated with acetylthiocholine, while others were kept in D.F.P. solution before the incubation. The tissues after preliminary washings were then treated with appropriate reagents so as to precipitate the copper derivative of thio-choline. The sections ultimately obtained showed dark deposits at those points where the enzyme was present, and deposits were absent if D.F.P. had destroyed the enzyme. Abbott et al (Abbott et al., 2004 Abbott et al., 2004 Abbott et al., 2004 Benaben Sottil, 2006) have reported several investigations regarding the formation of choline chloride based ionic liquids with various kinds of hydrated metallic salts, potentially able to be applied for electrodeposition and electropolishing. The involved metallic compounds have chlorides or nitrates as anions and the freezing point is up to 50°C. When other types of metallic salts have been employed, such as acetates, sulphates, the resulted ionic compound doesn t become solid at temperatures over 50C but the liquid state is maintained on a narrower domain. [Pg.264]
