Choice of Ingredients

It should be recognised that appreciable shifts in properties are sometimes made possible by special compounding variations. For instance, the heat resistance of natural rubber vulcanisates may be improved considerably by variation of the vulcanising recipe. The normal sulfur vulcanisation system is capable of many variants which will govern the chemical nature of sulfur crosslinks, i.e., whether it is essentially a mono, di or polysulfide linkage. The nature of sulfur crosslinks can have considerable influence on the heat and chemical resistance of vulcanisates. [Pg.81]

Protective anti degradants are chosen according to the severity and the type of service and to their relative effectiveness and compatibility to the base polymer. The steps in which [Pg.81]

It is possible by careful choice of ingredients to make a Turkish delight with a reduced energy content yet resembling the full sugar version that is commonly sold in the UK. [Pg.142]

In addition to utilizing computers to optimize pesticide formulations, computer programs can be designed to operate equipment used to evaluate pesticide formulations and to perform complex theoretical calculations used to guide choice of ingredients. [Pg.6]

These examples barely touch the wide variety of epoxy polymer structures and curing reactions. They illustrate the point that the latent functionality of the prepolymers and the chemical and mechanical properties of the linal polymeric structures will vary with the choice of ingredients and reaction conditions. [Pg.12]

Can corrosion. This may be caused by incorrect pH of latex paints, or incorrect choice of ingredients leading to acidic by-products on storage. The remedy is careful selection of can lining, or perhaps the addition of anticorrosive agents to the paint, or improved formulation and adjustment. [Pg.249]

Each of the three principal components of alkyd resins—the polybasic acids, the polyols, and the monobasic acids— has a large variety to be chosen from. The selection of each one of these ingredients will affect the properties of the resin. As will be shown later, the choice of ingredients may even affect the choice of manufacturing processes. To both the resin manufacturers and the users, the selection of the proper ingredients is a major decision. [Pg.3301]

Formulation of SMC/BMC compounds is a very sophisticated balance of many ingredients to enhance specific properties and/or act synergistically with other components. Most SMC/BMC formulations have three main elements binder, filler and fiber reinforcement, from a choice of ingredients such as unsaturated polyester resin, monomer, catalyst, inhibitor, fillers, TP anti-shrinkage additives, flame-retardant, thickener, release agent, and glass fiber reinforcement. [Pg.215]

The first step toward making a bulk-blended fertilizer of good quality is choice of ingredients that are chemically compatible. Fortunately, there only a few combina-tions of fertilizer materials that may give trouble in this respect. The chemical compatibility of some common fertilizer materials used in bulk blends is shown in Rgure 18.18. [Pg.493]

The properties of margarine, such as nutritional value, spreadahility, plasticity, shelf life and melting properties, resemble those of butter and are influenced essentially by the varieties and properties of the main fat ingredients. Since choice of ingredients is large, numerous varieties of margarine are produced (cf. Table 14.19). [Pg.660]

Choice of suppliers, quality assurance and agreements, production process and product approval, choice of ingredients (A new edition will be pubhshed soon)... [Pg.21]
