Chlormethiazol

Perfused rat liver rapidly converts 4-m thyI-5-/3-chloroethy]thiazole to 2-hydroxy -4-methylthiazol-5-y) acetic acid (40. 41). Finally, tw o new human metabolites of chlormethiazole have been isolated and identified by mass spectra as 2-hydroxy-4-methyl-5-/S-chloroethylthiazole and 2-hydroxy-4-methyl-5-ethylthiazole (42).

Counseling and other psychosocial services play a role in withdrawal therapy.30 Supportive drugs for withdrawal therapy include diphenoxylate with atropine, promethazine, propranolol, thioridazine, benzodiazepines, and chlormethiazole—the use of which all require care and caution. Gerada et al.31 have discussed problems associated with the management of pregnant patients with opioid dependence. 

Chlormethiazole Edisylate Chlormethiazole edisylate may penetrate or be adsorbed onto plastics and may soften plastic sets of intravenous infusions. Adverse reactions such as thrombophlebitis, fever, and headache were reported in children receiving infusions of this drug, presumably due to reaction of components of infusions sets. For intravenous infusions, the use of Teflon intravenous cannulas or motor-driven glass syringes may be preferred over plastic or glass sets containing silastic cannulae.153154...

Bayer et al. (1986) conducted a 9-week, double-blind controlled study of triazolam and another hypnotic, chlormethiazole, in the elderly with sleep disturbances. They found daytime withdrawal effects from triazolam but not chlormethiazole. At week 3, significantly more... 

This dependence of product distribution on reaction conditions is also evident when 2-mercaptobenzothiazole is oxidized under acidic conditions. The material will form the disulfide provided a stoichiometric amount of hydrogen peroxide is employed.364 However, when excess hydrogen peroxide is used, the sulfinic acid will be formed, which upon acidification liberates sulfur dioxide to give the benzothiazole.365 Thus 2-mercaptothiazoles, under certain conditions, will undergo desulfurization, which is an important step in the preparation of chlormethiazol,366 a vitamin Bi intermediate (Figure 3.94).
