Cationic polymerization of 3,3-bis(chloromethyl)oxetane (BCMO) was in the past employed in the commercial process for making chlorinated polyether-Penton , polymer having very good chemical resistance toward aggressive media (e.g., cone. H2S04 up to 120° C). Relatively high price, due to the difficult monomer synthesis, was the reason, that Penton... [Pg.487]

Other polyethers The chlorine-containing polyether Penton has excellent resistance to mineral acids, strong alkalis and most common solvents. It is not recommended for use with oxidising acids such as fuming nitric acid. [Pg.933]

Poly (3,3-Bis(Chloromethyl)Oxetane) This is marketed by Hercules as Penton chlorinated polyether. Its thermal, flame, and chemical resistance are used primarily for corrosion-resistant equipment in the process industries, such as valves, fittings, pumps, meters, and linings for steel pipe and tanks, for service in many corrosive atmospheres up to 250°F. or higher. At 4.50/pound, growth possibilities appear limited by increasing competition from lower-cost materials. [Pg.22]

These polymers, developed by Vandenberg, are the natural extension of the successful development of two other chlorinated polyethers , namely poly-3,3-bis-(chloromethyl)oxetane (polyBCMO, Penton of Hercules Co) and the previously mentioned epichlorohydrin elastomers. The presence of two bulky chloromethyl groups hampers cyclization and increases the stability of the cationic active centers. [Pg.57]

Chlorinated polyether is sold under the tradename of Penton. It has a maximum operating temperature of 225°F (107°C). CPE is resistant to most acids and bases, oxidizing agents, and common solvents. It has the advantage of being able to resist acids at elevated temperatures. It is not resistant to nitric acid above 10% concentration. Refer to Table 2.38 for the compatibility of CPE with selected corrodents. Reference [1] provides a more comprehensive listing. [Pg.134]
