ABSTRACT The present mining depth reaches about 600 m and inreases 12 m per year to deep part in key coal mines of eastern North China. Being the basement of coal measure strata in North China coal mine, the Ordovician karst aquifer is the baleful source of water for exploiting the Carboniferous coal bed (deep coal seam). The coal mines that the exploitation transfers into the deep stratum will be threaten by the deep high or superhigh pressure (8-12 MPa) confined water from Ordovician. Meanwhile, the researched area has the Coal Chemical Industry (CCI) which demands a mass of water. This paper analy-sised the current situation of water resources in the researched area and hydraulic, hychemical feature of deep Ordovician fracture-karst aquifer. The concept of Water and Coal Simultaneous Extraction (WCSE) was put forward. The feasibility test of WCSE was put into effect in study area. Einally, the water pressure of deep karst aquifer was reduced for the deep coal mined safely by means of dewatering, which could supply sufficient water for the CCI. [Pg.351]

The large demand for PPCPs has spawned a rapid development in the chemical industry that supplies them. For pharmaceuticals, the production pathway invariably leads overseas, as over 80 percent of the active pharmaceutical chemicals being consumed in the United States each year, as well as 40 percent of the finished product, are being manufactured internationally. The primary countries that are now in the business of satisfying the US market s pharmaceutical needs are India and China, and their enthusiasm for the task is saddling these countries with significant water pollution issues. [Pg.133]

Currently, there are only two native acetal producers. Shanghai Pacific Chemical Group Corp is the large producer in China with an annual capacity of 2500 tonnes. Jilin Chemical Industrial has an annual capacity of 800 tonnes. Shanghai Pacific Chemical has formed a joint venture with DuPont to produce acetal. The venture will have an annual capacity of 45 000 tonnes. DuPont has also set up a wholly owned plant in Shenzhen to produce acetal. Both Shanghai Pacific Chemical and Jilin Chemical Industrial are planning to increase their polyoxymethylene (POM) capacities to 5000 tonnes per year. After the completion of these new projects, acetal supply will improve dramatically in China. However, demand will continue to outstrip supply as industrial end-use markets rapidly expand. [Pg.19]

Tomas Koch of McKinsey uses the specialty chemical market as an example Chinese producers increasingly supply the multinational companies that are moving plants [into China] and then dropping their traditional suppliers. They switch almost as soon as an adequate local source becomes available... Since rising imports to meet growing domestic demand will eventually draw Chinese entrepreneurs with low cost bases into the market for just about all chemicals, any decision to serve the country from faraway plants may be risky. ... [Pg.143]
