CHAT plant

A modification of the HAT cycle has been proposed by Nakhamkin [11], which is known as the cascaded humid air turbine (CHAT). The higher pressure ratios required in humidified cycles led Nakhamkin to propose reheating between the HP and LP turbines. Splitting the expansion in this way is paralleled by splitting the compression, and enables the HP shaft to be non-generating, as indicated in Fig. 6.15. This implies that the capital cost of the plant can be reduced, but the cycle is still complex. 

Macchi et al. did not undertake parametric studies of the CHAT cycle and there appears to be no comparably thorough examination of this cycle in the literature but Nakhamkin describes a prototype plant giving a thermal efficiency of some 55% at a very high pressure ratio, i.e. about 70, compared with the dry CICBTBTX cycle optimum of about 40 shown in Fig. 6.17. 

With reaction conditions of 200-225°F, 150—225 psi, and a palladium chloride-cupric chloride catalyst, MEK yields are 80-90%. The operating costs of the Wacker process for MEK (and acetone and several other petrochemicals as well) are relatively low. But the plant Is made of more expensive materials. Because of the corrosive nature of the catalyst solution, critical vessels, and the piping are titanium-based.(chats expensive ), and the reactor is rubber-lined, acid-resistant brick. ...

At the present time, Salvia divinorum is a legal plant in the United States, and no federal laws apply to its possession or use. It is grown for sale by cultivators in Mexico, Hawaii, and California. In recent years, Salvia has gained some popularity as a legal psychedelic drug. A wide range of people has used the plant for recreation, as an aid in meditation, or for herbal healing. As information about Salvia has spread on the Internet, the notoriety of the plant has increased. The psychedelic potential of salvinorin A has become the subject of numerous websites and chat rooms. 

Qat (khal, chat, niinia). Qat is a popular stimulant in a wide area of East Africa and the Middle East. It is a shrubby tree, whose fresh leaves and young twigs are eaten for their stimulating effect. The leaves lose their power when they dry out. Qat contains many active chemicals, some of which resemble amphetamines in their structure. Unlike coca, the leaves of qat, which have a hitter, astringent taste, are usually swallowed. Truck drivers in Kenya are big users of this plant. 

Silicone foam thus formed has an open cell stmcmre and is a relatively poor insulating material. Cell size can he controlled hy the selection of fillets, which serve as buhhle nucleating sites. The addition of quartz as a fillet gteady improves the flame retardancy of the foam chat yields of >65% can he achieved. Because of its excellent flammahihty characteristics, sflicone foam is used in huilding and constmction fire-stop systems and as pipe insulation in power plants. Typical physical properties of sflicone foam ate listed in Table 10. 

Electric Spark Sensitivity to. MF is capable of being ignited by a spark from a person charged to less than 5000 volts, a condition chat is possible in plant operations. Brown et al (Ref 27) give for Sensitivity to Electrostatic Discharge 0.025 joules (Ref 34)... 

Water inflow to the delta summit (discharge sites of Chatli, Samanby, Kizildjar) is much less than the flow values recorded at the Kerki site. On the almost 900-km stretch of Amudarya from Kerki to the delta (and in the delta also) an important volume of water is consumed by irrigation and lost due to evaporation from the flooded alluvial plain and transpiration by hydrofilous plant vegetation. 

In Mexico, farmers insert slivers of acote (a type of pine) through the root of the plant below ground level when the plant is about four feet high. They claim chat this prevents the formation of seeds and gives the marijuana a pine flavor, both highly unlikely. 

This phenomenon would be of little interest here were it not for some experiments conducted by an American scientist named Warmke during World War II. Treating marijuana plants with colchicine, he obtained a number of triploid and tetraploid and tetraploid plants had about the same average activity (though individual plants varied by a factor of eight) which was about twice chat of the normal diploid strains. He used 26 different plants of each variety and his data were statistically significant. Unfortunately, he worked with an acetone extract of the plants and his assay animals were small fish, making it doubtful whether his data have any relation to cannabinoid content. 

Naturally occurring iridoids and their glycosides are widely distributed in plants and serve as important taxonomic markers. The iridoids were named after ants of the genus Iridomirmex, from which iridodial, iridomyrmecin, and related compounds were isolated and found to be involved in the defense mechanisms of these insects. Similar structures also exist in plants for example nepetalactone from Nepeta cataria L. (Lamiaceae), or teucriumlactone C from Teucrium marum L. have marked properties (the effects of the former on cats earned it some evocative names catnip, Katzenmelisse, herbe-aux-chats).

Biogenic mineral matter assimilated by the former plants represents a very small fraction of the inorganic bulk and is inherentiy chat with the organic matrk. 

Usually the construction people are anxious to get the plant formally handed over for commissioning. Tt is importanL chat short cuts are not taken in haste to complete handover.
