Central PACS

In our situation, we have a number of hospitals connected to a central PACS and RIS while using the same workflow. Physicians will not notice whether an image only needed to travel from the basement or instead was transmitted over a distance of 30 km. However, the radiological workflow of these hospitals is exactly the same and supported by the same information system. Technology makes that these sites seem to be under the same roof, but these sites also work as one single organization.

In this section we illustrate the problems that may be addressed using PAC spectroscopy by a variety of examples from the literature. We aim to cover the central aspects of application of PAC spectroscopy in bioinorganic chemistry using these selected examples, rather than to provide a description of all papers published in this field.

The PAC approach is quite different from the traditional way of food process control, where samples are taken at different point of the process and then transported to the central laboratory, stored, and analyzed with sophisticated instrumentation. In comparison, PAC analyzers are located in or right next to process and are considered physically and operationally part of the process. Besides the location of the instrumentation, time frame is another characteristic that distinguish PAC from the traditional analytical philosophy. In fact, a centralized laboratory usually can take hours or day before returning the results while PAC data are immediately available for process control and optimization. This in turn lowers the quality cost of production, that is, the loss suffered when a batch of product...
