Our efforts were supported by three divisions of the American Qiem-ical Society Carbohydrate Qiemistry Cellulose, Paper, and Textiles and Computers in Chemistry. Additional financial support was provided by Polygen Corporation, suppliers of the Quanta Modeling System, and Chemical Design, developers and distributors of CHEM-X. [Pg.411]

He was a member of the American Chemical Society, and of its Carbohydrate Division (Chairman, 1972-1973) and its Cellulose, Paper, and Textile Division (Chairman, 1971-1972). He was also a member of The Chemical Society (London), The Society of the Sigma Xi, the Combustion Institute, the Torrey Botanical Club, the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, and the Montana Academy of Sciences. He served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis and the Journal of Wood Chemistry and Technology. He chaired a number of symposia and conferences, including the July, 1983, Gordon Conference on Analytical Pyrolysis. Through election by the University of Montana faculty, he served on the Faculty Senate and on the Executive Committee of the Senate. In 1980, he was awarded the University of Montana s first Distinguished Research Award. [Pg.5]

At the 188th Meeting of the ACS (Cellulose, Paper, and Textile Division) in Philadelphia 1984, a report was presented on the investigation of the red dye in this coronation robe (2). Max Saltzman (University of California, Los Angeles) had obtained a tiny sample of a... [Pg.212]

Extensive research has been published on the chemistry and physics of paper and textiles. From the volume of available work, physical scientists must extract the information required by conservators to assist them in the preservation of fibrous materials. To this end, the Cellulose, Paper, and Textile Division of the American Chemical Society has sponsored four symposia since the mid-1970s on the preservation of paper and textiles of historic and artistic value. These conferences provided a forum where conservators and physical scientists could meet and discuss matters of mutual interest Papers presented at the first three meetings have been published as chapters in three volumes of the Advances in Chemistry Series ... [Pg.265]

Professor Jones s outstanding achievements in carbohydrate chemistry were recognized by his receipt of numerous awards and honors. In 1957, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, and, in 1959, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada. The Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry of the American Chemical Society presented him with the Claude S. Hudson Award in 1969. He was the 1975 recipient of the Anselme Payen Award from the Cellulose, Paper, and Textile Division. In March 1975, he was awarded the third Sir Norman Haworth Memorial Medal of The Chemical Society (London). [Pg.6]

The editors appreciate the support provided by the Cellulose, Paper, and Textile and Organic Coatings and Plastics Divisions of ACS in organizing symposia on this topic and encouraging their publication. [Pg.2]
