The most common types of acetal polymers are the acetal homopolymer (Delrin by Du Pont) and the acetal copolymer (Celcon by Hoescht Celanese-Ticona). The homopolymer is produced from polyformaldehyde and the copolymer from trioxane (a crystalline form of formaldehyde). [Pg.6]

Conunercial producers of acetal copolymer resins include Hoechst Celanese-Ticona (Celcon), BASF (Ultraform), Mitsubishi Gas (lupital), and LNP (Lubricomp). Only Du Pont (Delrin) and Ashai Chemical (Tenac) manufacture the homopolymer. [Pg.6]

The formulation for Impet from Ticona (a Division of the Hoechst Celanese Corporation) is described in United States Patent 6 020414 [43], The latter discloses toughened PET formulations based on an ethylene-alkyl acrylate copolymer and an ethylene-alkyl methacrylate copolymer. The crux of this patent is to use a combination of an elastomeric terpolymer functionalized with glycidyl acrylate or glycidyl methacrylate and an alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate (the latter forming the major part of the combination - up to 40wt%). For instance,... [Pg.533]

Random copolymerization is an effective way to disturb the regular molecular structure of the polymer chain. The lack of periodicity along the chain inhibits crystallization and, thus, reduces the crystal size and perfection and depresses Tm. If the chosen comonomer is essentially linear, losses of chain mesogenicity can be minimized. This approach has been followed in designing thermotropic copolyesters, such as Vectra A by Celanese (now Ticona), which continues to enjoy commercial success. Vectra A is the copolyester of p-acetoxybenzoic acid (ABA) and 2,6-acetoxynaphthoic acid (ANA) with a mole ratio of 73/27. The melting point of this LCP is around 280°C, which is much lower than the melting points of the either poly (ABA) or poly (ANA) [6]. [Pg.24]

Copolymers made from a-olefins and cyclic olefins have been known for nearly 50 years (1,2). Ethylene-norbomene (Et-Nb) copoljrmers are specifically described in the patent bterature as long ago as 1973 (3), with further patent filings since then (4-6). The general class of thermoplastic cyclic olefin copolymers (COCs) includes products from Mitsui Chemicals (7), Japan Synthetic Rubber (8), Nippon Zeon (9), and Ticona (10). Some of these products are manufactured by ring-opening metathesis and others by addition polymerization. Only the COCs made by Ticona, a division of Celanese AG, under the trademark Topas, are Et Nb copolymers. These products, for which Ticona started up a 30,000-t plant in September 2000 (11), are described in this article. [Pg.2952]
