Cefoperazone

Although immediate reactions of anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, and urticaria have been reported, most commonly patients exhibiting an adverse reaction develop a maculopapular rash, usually after several days of therapy. They may also develop fever and eosinophilia (80,219). Cefoperazone (34) and ceftriaxone (39), having greater biUary excretion than other cephalosporins, are associated with an increased risk of diarrhea, which may be caused by selection of cytotoxin producing stains of Clostridium difficile (219). [Pg.39]

Sulbactam (25, R = R = H, R" = R " = dl ) is produced by Pfizer. The oral version of sulbactam in combination with ampicillin is called Unasyn Oral which is the mutual prodmg sultamicillin. Two sulbactam parenteral products are sold, a combination product with ampicillin called Unasyn and a combination with cefoperazone [62893-19-0] called Sulperazon. In addition, sulbactam is sold alone for parenteral use with any P-lactam antibiotic as Betamaze. In 1990 worldwide sales of sulbactam containing products were over 280 million. [Pg.56]

Cefpimizole (51) appears to be less active in vitro than cefotaxime and cefoperazone and to have a somewhat narrower activity spectrum although some strains of Pseudomonas are susceptible. It is not orally active, but its performance in vivo appears superior to what would be expected from its in vitro data. Its synthesis begins by acylation of cephaloglycin (48) with the bis acid chloride of imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (49) to give amide 50. The acetyl moiety at C-3 of this intermediate is displaced with 4-pyridineethanesulfonic acid and sodium iodide to give cef-pimazole (51) [16]. [Pg.185]

Parenterally administered cephalosporins that are metabolically stable and that are resistant to many types of jS-lactamases include eefuroxime, cefamandole, cefotaxime and cefoxitin, which has a 7a-methoxy group at R. Injectable cephalosporins with anti-pseudomonal activity include cefsulodin and cefoperazone. [Pg.97]
