The Utah deposit is located in southwestern Utah near Cedar City. The iron ore deposits are of contact metamorphic origin. The cmde ore contains 35 to 65% iron, primarily in the form of magnetite and goethite. Mining is done by the open pit method. The cmde ore is cmshed, screened at —75 mm (—200 mesh size) and shipped as lump ore containing 54% iron. The ore is rescreened at the steel mill to produce lump ore (10—64 mm) for the blast furnace and sinter feed (0—10 mm) for the sinter plant. 

Essential oils are isolated from various plant parts, such as leaves (patchouH), fmit (mandarin), bark (cinnamon), root (ginger), grass (citroneUa), wood (amyris), heartwood (cedar), gum (myrrh oil), balsam (tolu balsam oil), berries (pimento), seeds (diU), flowers (rose), twigs and leaves (thuja oil), and buds (cloves).

Woody Family. The perfumer has available many different woody fragrance matetials, both natural and synthetic. Naturals such as sandal, vetivert, cedar, and patchouh often form the bases of these fragrances. They combine iu harmony with sweet notes, florals, and animal accords. 

Sulfite pulps have properties that are desirable for tissues and top quaHty, fine papers. Because sulfite pulping is not as versatile as kraft pulping, various options have been developed, and the choice of a specific process is dependent on individual mill situations. The unbleached pulp has high (60+) brightness compared to kraft pulp and is easily bleached. However, it is limited to select wood species. The heartwood of pine, Douglas fir, and cedars are not easily pulped. Additionally, pulps produced from hardwood have limited economic value because of low strength. 

Wood Shingles and Shakes. Early roofs in the United States were primarily hand-spHt hickory or cypress shakes. The natural beauty and style of these materials make them popular. Fire-retardant treatment and underlays may be needed to meet local fire codes. Wood shingles are sawn cedar having a uniform thickness. Wood shakes are usually hand-spHt and resawn. 

In detergent perfumes, the stabiUty of vanillin is not always certain. It depends on the association made with other raw materials, eg, with patchouli, frankincense, cloves, most of the animal notes, and such chemicals as amyl saUcylate, methyl ionones, heflotropin, gamma undecalactone, linalool, methyl anthrarulate, benzyl acetate, phenyl ethyl alcohol, cedar wood derivatives, oak mosses, coumarin, benzoin. Pern balsam, and cistus derivatives. In some cases, these mixtures can cause discoloration effects. 

Adsorption. Wood is highly hygroscopic. The amount of moisture adsorbed depends mainly on the relative humidity and temperature (Fig. 1). Exceptions occur with species with high extractive contents (eg, redwood, cedar, and teak). The equihbtium moisture contents of such woods ate generally... 

Eor practical purposes, the sapwood of all species may be considered to be susceptible to biodeterioration. The heartwood of some species, however, contains toxic extractives that protect it against biological attack. Among the native species that have decay-resistant or highly decay-resistant heartwood are bald cypress, redwood, cedars, white oak, black locust, and black walnut (60).
