Castle, Operation

IOS has been studied as a suitable cosurfactant in caustic flooding operations [11]. A field pilot test at White Castle (Texas) which used a blend of IOS 1720 and IOS 2024 was considered to be a technical success. [Pg.428]

Confusion as to what constitutes municipal waste is presenting an obstacle to the use of packaging waste as a fuel in cement kilns. Whilst cement kilns can bum hazardous waste, they cannot bum a wide range of non-hazardous materials, it is reported. The case of Castle Cement is described which planned to bum a range of non-hazardous commercial and industrial wastes. Some waste-fired combustion processes, however, such as UK Waste s Fibre Fuel operation have been granted derogations where fuel is manufactured by advanced mechanical processes, which includes the production of fuel pellets. This latter process would be pointless for the cement industry since their fuels have to be pulverised. The problems are further discussed with reference to current European legislation. [Pg.66]

The above comments apply to the bulk of the chemical industry s operations. However, there are a few exceptions, and these are all concerned with products which are manufactured in small quantities, typically 10-100 tonnes per annum, but have a very high value per unit weight. For some products this might mean tens of thousands of pounds per tonne. Agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals are the best-known products of this type. Due to their high value and small bulk, transportation (and its costs) is no problem, and manufacturing units may therefore be sited anywhere. Quite often this means that they are located in attractive rural areas and many miles from the coast. Examples are Barnard Castle (County Durham), Loughborough, Macclesfield, and Ulverston (Cumbria). [Pg.84]

The single and double methylations involve one and two molecules of 5-adenosylmethionine, respectively, and were first demonstrated in higher plants mPisum sativum (Castle et al., 1963), Salvia officinalis (Nicholas and Moriarty, 1963), and Menyanthes trifoliata, (Bader et al., 1964) and in the algae Laminaria saccharina (Villanueva et al., 1964), Fucus spiralis (Goad and Goodwin, 1%9), and Ochromonas spp. (Smith et al., 1966 Lederer, 1969). The mechanism proposed by Nes (Castle et al., 1963) for Cgg sterols (pathway 1, Fig. 3) and for C29 sterols (pathway 2, Fig. 3) was shown to operate in Ochromonas spp. from the following experiments ... [Pg.493]

Glycerin can be produced from sucrose by fermentation (2) or by hydrogenation. The latter reaction, considered here, yields four molecules of glycerin for each molecule of sucrose from high test molasses, that is, concentrated cane juice. A plant using this technology of 15 million lb per year capacity was operated at New Castle, Delaware, until 1969 by Atlas Powder Company (now ICI-United States, Inc.). [Pg.346]

SulFerox is a high iron concentration, chelate-based, liquid redox desulfurization process developed by the Shell Development Co. It is presently licensed under a joint agreement by the Shell Oil Company and the Dow Chemical Co. The first SulFerox unit was installed in 1987 at White Castle, LA, to treat low-pressure natural gas. By late 1995, a total of 37 SulFerox units had been licensed, with over 20 units in operation (Kenny, 1995). [Pg.825]

Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) was carried out with a TA Instruments (New Castle, DE) Model TGA 2950 thermobalance. The instrument was operated in the dynamic mode with a heating rate of 5 C/min, where 40 C and 350 C were the initial and final temperatures, respectively. On average, 4 mg was the initial mass of each sample analyzed. Air was used instead of inert atmosphere, to study the effect of thermal oxidation. [Pg.83]

A convenient way to maintain a detector at a low and constant temperature is to thermally couple the detector housing to a cryostat filled with liquid helium. At one bar the boiling point of helium is 4.2 K and less at lower pressures. For operation down to 0.3 K the isotope helium 3 can be used instead of the normally available helium, which is dominantly helium 4. Operation at even lower temperatures ( 0.1 K) is possible using demagnetization effects in certain paramagnetic salts ferric ammonium sulfate is an example (Castles, 1980 Serlemitsos et ai, 1990). [Pg.271]
