Spray the inside of the mold with a casting release agent. Hix and pour liquid casting plastic into the mold until It Is approx. I/A inch deep. Now pour in 3/16" or l/A" Steel ball bearings until you have a layer of them covering the bottom of the mold. Add casting plastic If needed so that the layer of balls is barely covered. Set Che mold a-Slde and let the plastic cure. N0T Plaster of Paris or body putty can also be used to cast the balls in. The ball bearings are the easiest to work with but any metal can be used (nuts, bolts, screws, nails, etc.). [Pg.38]

Poly(vinyl alcohol) is employed for a variety of purposes. Film cast from aqueous alcohol solution is an important release agent in the manufacture of reinforced plastics. Incompletely hydrolysed grades have been developed for water-soluble packages for bath salts, bleaches, insecticides and disinfectants. Techniques for making tubular blown film, similar to that used with polyethylene, have been developed for this purpose. The reaction was carried out at 100°C for about two hours until the theoretical isocyanate content, as determined by the di-n-butylamine titration method (27), was reached. The PU prepolymer with or without tertiary amine nitrogen groups was dissolved in dry MEK to obtain a prepolymer solution of 30-40% solids. It was then mixed with a mixture of 1,4-BD/TMP (4 1 by equiv. ratio) at an NCO/OH = 1.05/1.0 ratio in the presence of T-12 catalyst (0.05% based on total weight). After standing 3-5 hours at room temperature, the mold was placed in an oven and post-cured at 100°C for 16 hours. Thermoset polyurethanes are cross-linked polymers, which are produced by casting or reaction injection molding (RIM). For cast elastomers, TDI in combination with 3,3,-dichloro-4,4,-diphen5lmethanediamine (MOCA) are often used. In the RIM technology, aromatic diamine chain extenders, such as diethyltoluenediamine (DETDA), are used to produce poly(urethane ureas) (47), and replacement of the polyether polyols with amine-terminated polyols produces polyureas (48). The aromatic diamines are soluble in the polyol and provide fast reaction rates. In 1985, internal mold release agents based on zinc stearate compatibilized with primary amines were introduced to the RIM process to minimize mold preparation and scrap from parts tom at demold.
