Process Characteristics in Transfer Functions In many cases, process charac teristics are expressed in the form of transfer functions. In the previous discussion, a reactor example was used to illustrate how a transfer function could be derived. Here, another system involving flow out of a tank, shown in Fig. 8-6, is considered. [Pg.721]

When derived from handbooks or similar sources, many entries in a checklist may not be applicable to the process being studied. In other cases, process hazards may be so unusual they are not in standard checklists. Thus, it may be difficult to assure that all hazards have been analyzed. In most cases the identity of the reactive reducing species is not known with certainty. A component or object in which grain orientations are completely random is said to have no texture. If the material exhibits some preferred orientation, it is said to have a texture. The texture can be weak, moderate, or strong, depending on the percentage of grains that have the preferred orientation. Texture is produced in most materials, either as an unintended by-product of the processing method or with the intention to exploit favorable properties in one orientation.
