People, caring about

I have lost all of my interest in other people and don t care about them at all. 

Antisocial Personality Disorder may be co-occurring with the drug use. Many more men meet criteria for this disorder than women, but there are women who do meet these criteria. Sometimes borderline (described later in this section) behavior can be mistaken for antisocial, and certainly there can be overlap between the two disorders. However, clients with whom I ve worked who have borderline features generally have the capacity to care about other people, whereas people who are antisocial may not have this capacity. 

They also have added new social support networks in their lives to serve as guides and cheerleaders as they ve made significant life changes. The people who surround them now advocate for them. The stress in their social relationships is likely diminishing over time as they have developed confidence in their recovery and as they have worked to improve their interaction styles with others. People like to be around them now, because their real selves have appeared since they stopped using drugs. There are many who care about them in ways that they may not have experienced in many years — maybe even in their lifetimes — because they have protected themselves with new social skills and networks. 

I was experiencing panic and fear, which I feel was justified. I had to become someone who managed the behavior of other people, to some degree, to keep myself alive, a very uncomfortable position to be in. I found myself having to ask people to not smoke or not to use personal care products or cleaning products. That was mortifying. I didn t want to care what other people did. It is philosophically offensive to have to care about such trivia. I didn t know anyone else with this disease, so I didn t have a model on which to base the behavior I was having to exercise. On the other hand, the reactions were swift and violent and I didn t have much choice. 

There have been different stages in how I have coped with this illness. Very few people have the resources to do what I ve done to cope. My home is a safe, quiet haven, and that s had a lot to do with my being able to cope. This place doesn t have gas to it, and I m very careful about what anybody sprays around here. I ve been able to control much of what goes on, and that has helped me. 

Believing in the Smokehouse helps me to cope. I don t know if you d call it a religion, it s a way of life. People come from all different tribes. These are people who care about other people. Their whole philosophy is to follow a good lifestyle. Being with other people, especially at the Smokehouse, lifts my spirits.

Importance of Interfaces. At one time, modularity in the software world was principally motivated by the need to divide a big job into manageable tasks. The interfaces of your module worked with the modules of the people in the neighboring cubicles it was easy to discuss any issues about the interfaces. In a culture that reuses the pieces, you are unlikely to know all the components that yours will connect to You must therefore be much more careful about your interface definitions (and about reading those of others). 

The first thing you ll need are members. Before recruiting, think carefully about how many people you want to participate and also what the club s focus will be. For example, some book clubs focus exclusively on fiction, others read nonfiction. Some are even more specific, focusing only on a particular genre such as mysteries, science fiction, or romance. Others have a more flexible and open focus. All of these possibilities can make for a great club, but it is important to decide on a focus at the outset so the guidelines will be clear to the group and prospective member.

He s a hard person to be with...he s very selfish, very...I think when people, anybody, that starts using drugs, they totally lose all reality... they become totally different people... with people that takes drugs it s as if they don t care for life at all, and they don t care about anybody else except for theirselves basically. 

It s not bad people that become addicts and it s not bad people that don t care about their kids, it s just people that an addiction has got a grip of and that that is more powerful than anything, even the love that a parent would have for their children, it just overrules even that. 

Innovation and change have tended to be thought of largely as the prerogative of those at the top of the organizational hierarchy. But the complexity of modern-day organizations and the rapidity of change mean that people at all levels now have opportunities to initiate improvements - indeed may need to if they care about success or survival, whether corporate or personal. 

If you are the only person who cares about whether or not an outcome is achieved, and the nature of that outcome, there is a risk that your personal venture will not be meeting any recognized corporate goal. You should therefore consider having a client for your project. This could be your boss, or another senior manager. Or it could be the people who report to you. 

Treat other people well. Care about the well-being of your colleagues and the people around you ...

Of course, the decision whether to hit relies on more than merely the current temptation to consume, since people care about how current consumption affects future instantaneous utilities. This trade-off between the current temptation to consume and the future costs of such consumption is the crux of the choice to become addicted.
