Antigen carcinoembryonic

Use of measurement of blood carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in certain patients who have been treated for cancer ofthe colon. [Pg.3]

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level may be high. Normal level is less than 3 ng/mL (3 mcg/L) in nonsmokers and less than 5 ng/mL (5 mcg/L) in smokers. [Pg.1344]

Carcinoembryonic antigen A protein normally seen during fetal development. When carcinoembryonic antigen is elevated in adults it suggests the presence of colorectal and other cancers. The normal level in nonsmokers is about less than 2.5 ng/mL, but it can be elevated in smokers and other nonmalignant conditions such as pancreatitis. [Pg.1561]

Baseline laboratory tests should include complete blood cell count, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, liver and renal function tests, and serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Serum CEA can serve as a marker for monitoring colorectal cancer response to treatment, but it is too insensitive and nonspecific to be used as a screening test for early-stage colorectal cancer. [Pg.703]

The antigen should be membrane bound and not shed from the cell surface. One of the positive exceptions to this rule is carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) which is also present in the serum of patients in significant concentrations. [Pg.208]

Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA). Locally synthesized CEA is a marker of malignant CNS mmors. An intrathecal fraction occurs in 90% of all carcinomatous meningeal involvements and in 45% of all intraparenchymal metastases. [Pg.14]
