Car windshields

Salts of neodecanoic acid have been used in the preparation of supported catalysts, such as silver neodecanoate for the preparation of ethylene oxide catalysts (119), and the nickel soap in the preparation of a hydrogenation catalyst (120). Metal neodecanoates, such as magnesium, lead, calcium, and zinc, are used to improve the adherence of plasticized poly(vinyl butyral) sheet to safety glass in car windshields (121). Platinum complexes using neodecanoic acid have been studied for antitumor activity (122). Neodecanoic acid and its esters are used in cosmetics as emoUients, emulsifiers, and solubilizers (77,123,124). Zinc or copper salts of neoacids are used as preservatives for wood (125). [Pg.106]

The first plastic was celluloid, made of nitrocellulose softened by vegetable oils and camphor. It was used for car windshields and for movie film. The first completely synthetic plastic was bakelite (1910) produced from phenol and formaldehyde for use in the electrical industry. [Pg.277]

A bullet specifically designed to shatter car windshields and to retain sufficient energy to wound the occupant is manufactured under the name of Equaloy. It is designed not to exit from soft targets. The bullet had a semi-wad-cutter profile, an aluminum alloy core, and is coated with white nylon.90... [Pg.84]

I m sure you ve heard the recent national news reports concerning the failure of windshield washer fluid to effectively clean car windshields in six states. The problem has been traced to windshield washer fluid manufactured last month by the DO-IT-ALL FLUIDS company in Butterfly City, AZ. It seems the Federal Fluids Board (FFB) believes that the DO-IT-ALL company is deliberately diluting their windshield washer fluid with water so as to increase their profits. The company, needless to say, is very upset over the allegations and wants to clear their name in this matter. They have called upon I.O.N.S. for help. [Pg.122]

Oregon was the first state in the United States to require the addition of Bitrex to antifreeze and car windshield washer fluid. The requirement was instituted to prevent people from drinking such products accidentally or, in the case of alcoholics, intentionally. [Pg.273]

The possibility of using the NMR-MOUSE for nondestructive online monitoring of adhesive curing for car windshields has been investigated [11]. [Pg.438]

Large quantities of poly(vinyl butyral) can be recovered from car windshields where it is used as an intermediate layer between two panes of glass. This recovered polymer can be reused for useful articles produced by blow molding using blending techniques described in the invention. [Pg.97]

A commonly encountered illustration of contact angle hysteresis is that of a raindrop moving down a slanted car windshield (Fig. 6.14). In that case, gravity is causing the front of the drop to advance across the fresh glass surface with a relatively large Ox while the trailing end moves with a much smaller... [Pg.114]

FIGURE 6.14. A common illustration of contact angle hysteresis is the movement of a liquid drop on an inclined surface such as a car windshield. [Pg.115]

Rainex is a product that causes water to bead instead of spread when sprayed on car windshields. When the water forms these droplets, are adhesive forces or cohesive forces strongest Explain. [Pg.313]

Tensile strength, flexural modulus, puncture strength, scratch, and marking resistance at low, as well as at elevated temperatures, are better than those of synthetic leathers present in the market. Outdoor ageing and accelerated UV tests indicate that this material can well overcome the severe conditions produced by the tendency to increase the oblique angle of car windshield. Same characteristics of the TPO based synthetic leather are reported in the Tables 6-8. [Pg.132]

Miscellaneous - Polyvinyl butyral is used as a olear adhesive film to laminate two sheets of glass to form safety glass for car windshields. Phenol formaldehyde resins are used to make brake lining composites, and blends of nitrile rubber and phenolic resin are used to bond brake linings to brake shoes. [Pg.295]

Small gear vessels in car windshields, washer pumps, etc., have been made from LCP materials containing 50% glass and mineral fillers and a lubricant. Very tight moulding tolerances are required in combination with dimensional stability and good friction properties. [Pg.453]
