Salts of neodecanoic acid have been used in the preparation of supported catalysts, such as silver neodecanoate for the preparation of ethylene oxide catalysts (119), and the nickel soap in the preparation of a hydrogenation catalyst (120). Metal neodecanoates, such as magnesium, lead, calcium, and zinc, are used to improve the adherence of plasticized poly(vinyl butyral) sheet to safety glass in car windshields (121). Platinum complexes using neodecanoic acid have been studied for antitumor activity (122). Neodecanoic acid and its esters are used in cosmetics as emoUients, emulsifiers, and solubilizers (77,123,124). Zinc or copper salts of neoacids are used as preservatives for wood (125).

I m sure you ve heard the recent national news reports concerning the failure of windshield washer fluid to effectively clean car windshields in six states. The problem has been traced to windshield washer fluid manufactured last month by the DO-IT-ALL FLUIDS company in Butterfly City, AZ. It seems the Federal Fluids Board (FFB) believes that the DO-IT-ALL company is deliberately diluting their windshield washer fluid with water so as to increase their profits. The company, needless to say, is very upset over the allegations and wants to clear their name in this matter. They have called upon I.O.N.S. for help. 

Oregon was the first state in the United States to require the addition of Bitrex to antifreeze and car windshield washer fluid. The requirement was instituted to prevent people from drinking such products accidentally or, in the case of alcoholics, intentionally.

Small gear vessels in car windshields, washer pumps, etc., have been made from LCP materials containing 50% glass and mineral fillers and a lubricant. Very tight moulding tolerances are required in combination with dimensional stability and good friction properties.
