Clomipramine is used as the hydrochloride salt and is prepared in capsules, modified-release (m/r) or film-coated (f/c) tablets. It appears to be more 5-HT-selective. Note that clomipramine is the chloro derivative of imipramine.

Sprinkle administration-The capsules may be carefully opened and the beads sprinkled over a spoonful of applesauce. The applesauce should not be warm because it could affect the modified release properties of Ritalin LA. The mixture of drug and applesauce should be consumed immediately in its entirety. Drinking some fluids (eg, water) should follow the intake of the sprinkles with applesauce. The drug and applesauce mixture should not be stored for future use. 

Antacids/Acid suppressants (Ritalin LA only) Because the modified release characteristics of Ritalin LA capsules are pH dependent, the coadministration of antacids or acid suppressants could alter the release of methylphenidate. Clonidine Serious adverse reactions have been reported in concomitant use with clonidine, although no causality for the combination has been established.

The pharmaceutical and biological availability of eight commercial furose-mide preparations was compared including two products with modified release properties [67], an enteric-coated tablet and a sustained-release preparation, in the form of a capsule containing diffusion pellets [28], A correlation between the rate of dissolution of different techniques and the area under the plasma concentration time curve was documented. Local formulations of budesonide are used in the management of inflammatory bowel disease. In mild to moderate Crohn s disease it is given by mouth as modified release capsules intended for a topical effect on the gastrointestinal tract. This approach offers new hope for Crohn s disease sufferers. 

A modified-release multi-particulate lithium capsule has been described consisting of five copolymer-coated prolonged-release tablets and one standard tablet, each 6 mm in size (521). 

The suitability of a modified-release formulation of carbamazepine (Carbatrol) for administration through feeding tubes in six children has been assessed (80). In addition, the pharmacist or pharmacy technician should be sure that the correct presentation of a particular drug is being supplied. Some drugs may be presented in a variety of different forms, for example, modified-release and non-modified-release, tablets and capsules, etc. Furthermore, as these different presentations may be produced by the same pharmaceutical manufacturing company, the packaging may appear very similar. 

These are flexible, usually one piece and often contain liquids, for example, fish liver oil capsules. The soft gelatin capsules can be coated to produce modified-release preparations, or enteric resistant coatings can be added to allow for absorption from the intestine.
