Lifestyle changes caused by urbanization in industrial countries also lead to changes in food processing methods. People eat more frequently in restaurants, cafeterias, canteens, or fast-food chains, where food is processed in large quantities, even before it is needed, and a decline in the number of home-prepared meals is also observed. These factors do not seem to increase the actual number of foodborne disease outbreaks, but rather make the consequences of each outbreak more severe - mass production of food means that an outbreak may affect many more people than would an outbreak caused by food served at a home dinner table.

It is always a temptation to discard a diet when eating out. After all, there should be exceptions to everything, especially diets. Eating out is fun, especially if it doesn t happen often. But some folks overdo it to the point where they seriously cripple their diets and damage themselves needlessly. Some can overdo it at potluck dinners. Others lose all resistance in cafeterias. Those who eat out often may be unable to diet because it takes more self discipline than they can muster.

More commonly, obesity can be attributed to a psychological failure of appetite control. At its simplest, this can be blamed on the variety of attractive foods available. People can easily be tempted to eat more than they need, and it may take quite an effort of will-power to refuse a choice morsel. Even when hunger has been satisfied, the appearance of a different dish can stimulate the appetite. Experimental animals, which normally do not become obese, can be persuaded to overeat and become obese by providing them with a cafeteria array of attractive foods.

This D-time will include the time it takes to walk to the cafeteria/restaurant, wait in a queue, sit at a table and be served. By contrast, as a customer of an up-market restamant, you may have travelled for an hom, spent 20 minutes in a reception area over an aperitif and study the menu for 15 minutes, before happily waiting for a further half an hour for the meal to be cooked and served.
