One hour after the completion of the exotherm, 7% of methyl methacrylate, 0.07% of butylene dimethacrylate, 0.07% parts sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate dissolved in water and 0.15% of cumene hydroperoxide are added and the reaction is allowed to completion. [Pg.317]

In this investigation EDMA appears to be a superior cross-linker compared to p-divinylbenzene (p-DVB) or butylene dimethacrylate (BDMA). To evaluate other possible cross-linkers, we tested pure o-, p- and m-DVB and a number of dimetha-... [Pg.75]

Graft copolymerization with monomers containing 2-chloroethyl, hydroxyethyl, or glycidyl groups leaves residual potential reaction centers for further chemical modification of the product. Graft copolymers with ethylene or butylene dimethacrylate are probably crosslinked and should show reduced solubility and increased chemical resistance. [Pg.180]

The most important method for the synthesis of star polymers by GTP involves the use of a diftmctional monomer either as an arm-first or as a core-first approach. Usually, EGDM is used as the difunctional monomer. However, other multifunctional monomers, such as tetramethylene glycol dimethacrylate, trimethylol propane trimethacrylate, and 1,4-butylene dimethacrylate have been used. [Pg.57]

Butylene dimethacrylate A polymerizable monomer used in PVC and rubber systems to obtain rigid or semi rigid products from materials that are normally flexible. The monomer acts as a plasicizer at room temperature and cross-links at processing temperatures See image). [Pg.141]

In a broad study to evaluate the composite properties of hetero-geneous-latex-based materials, Dickie et synthesized a series of latex semi-IPNs. A two-staged emulsion polymerization procedure was employed that yielded relatively uniform populations of heterogeneous latex particles (HLP). The glassy component was prepared from methyl methacrylate, and the rubbery component used a mixture comprising 95 mol % butyl acrylate (BA) and 5 mol % 1,3-butylene dimethacrylate (BPMA). Heterogeneous latex particles in which the rubbery component was polymerized first were referred to by Dickie et al as HLPl particles for which the order of polymerization was reversed were referred to as HLP2. [Pg.78]

Example 1 of Reference 34 describes a four-polymer IPN. A seed latex of butyl acrylate and 1,3-butylene dimethacrylate forms Cn. Onto this seed latex core, a shell of methyl methacrylate and glycidyl methacrylate are polymerized, forming P2. After coagulation, filtration, and washing, the resulting powder is dispersed in styrene and a stoichiometric amount of methacrylic acid. The dispersion is heated until the reaction between the methacrylic acid and the epoxy groups on the graded elastomeric particles is at least 50% complete. [Pg.213]
