Building materials, environment-friendly

The development of mineral foams is an altemative solution that must be rediscovered. In this study, a new type of building materials exhibiting the best compromise between insulating performances and mechanical properties is developed using environment friendly mineral binder (super sulfated cement slurry) and a green foaming process [2] without gas release and without firing. 

In this chapter, applications of textile materials to buildings are compared with examples from nature to inspire, provoke new ideas, and develop further fields of implementation. We live in a world of fascinating nature that can and already has inspired mankind with many technical solutions. When we look at the living world, we might find models that can be mimicked to create and/or maintain a resource-friendly built environment (Pedersen, 2008). Creatures have evolved and refined their bodies to suit the specific climate zones they live in. Plants have increased the efficiency of how they deal with their natural environment from one generation to the next in order to adapt. 

With regard to the service life use, FRP pultruded composites are more environmentally friendly than most traditional materials they need very little maintenance and, as previously discussed, exhibit improved durability even in relatively harsh environments. Furthermore, when used in building applications, the low thermal conductivity of FRPs may be associated with potential energy savings (the Eyecatcher Building stands as an example of this advantage).
