Building Automation

Today occupants, building owners, and other end users of ventilation systems are more interested in the level of air quality and thermal climate than in the techniques by which that level is achieved. This is supported by the fact that industrial ventilation system.s in modern premises are more complicated and tightly integrated with the process and building automation. It is therefore difficult for end users or nonprofessionals to evaluate whether a ventilation system is functioning correctly. [Pg.398]

When local or central computers are used for controlling the operation of HVAC installations in buildings, they are described as building automation systems. In the control station, operators communicate with control installations, which are connected through the computer plant. Computers for individual use are called personal computers (PCs). The use of PCs for technical and economic tasks in the past few years has increased considerably. The business overflows with PCs, which get greater data power and memory at lower prices. [Pg.782]

A recent data communications protocol for Building Automation and Control Networks (BACnet), ASHRAE Standard 135-1995, is an important step to ensure that controllers made by different manufacturers can communicate with each other in a simple way, avoiding the expense of additional interface hardware and communication software. [Pg.466]

Starting in the 1950s, electrochemical principles have been employed in the development of new technical means for the acquisihon, measurement, storage, transformation, and transfer of various types of informahon. By now many electrochemical devices have been developed for such purposes and are used to build automated systems for the control of production processes, for the automation of geophysical observations and measurements, and for many other purposes. This field, intermediate between electrochemistry, informatics, and electronics, is also known as chemotronics. [Pg.375]

The aim is to reduce the consumption of energy and water to the bare minimum. Computerized systems are used extensively. Such systems have different names Building Automation System (BAS), Energy Management System (EMS). [Pg.233]

Another product area appeared in the 1980s called building automation systems (BAS). These systems included historical data, trend logging and fire and security functions in addition to conventional energy management functions. [Pg.232]

Modern Building Automation Systems (BAS) attempt to limit the interfaces used in order to provide a more seamless, integrated network. Ideally, all of the various components communicate with each other in a common language. [Pg.232]

A typical AHU fitted with a purging system is presented in Figure 10.6. The additional equipment includes an axial fan, air-duct connections, and motorized shutoff dampers and a control system which is part of the building automation system (BAS). Before each purging operation, the fresh air and purging dampers would be opened and the return air damper would be shut The AH U and the purging... [Pg.230]

Limitations of SPE include the coextraction of interfering compounds and poor extraction of some drugs, but an important advantage is the possibility of building automated systems and obtaining the analytical procedure online, as this is the recent trend. [Pg.379]

Sophisticated computer-based data monitoring systems may be installed, with which preventive maintenance is planned by trend logging (This type of system is commonly referred to as a building management system (BMS), building automation system (BAS) or system control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.)... [Pg.72]

The second electronic system under the control of plant engineers is the facihty management or building automation system, which usually includes an energy controller. These systems are described in Section 5.3. [Pg.1572]

Developing the System Functional Performance Testing Procedures. The development of system functional performance testing procedures is crucial to proper performance of the commissioning process. In order to develop these procedures, the TC must have reviewed the design criteria, the construction documents, and the approved environmental control and building automation systems.
