ASHRAE standards

Thermal comfort may be defined as "that condition of mind in which satisfaction is expressed with the thermal environment" (4). It is thus defined by a statistically vaUd sample of people under very specific and controlled conditions. No single environment is satisfactory for everybody, even if all wear identical clothing and perform the same activity. The comfort zone specified in ASHRAE Standard 55 (5) is based on 90% acceptance, or 10% dissatisfied. [Pg.357]

Quantities are to be used only in conjunction with Section 7 of ASHRAE Standard 15-1994. The basis for the values shown in this table is a single event in which a complete discharge of any refrigerant system into the occupied space occurs. The catalogue-rated cooling capacity of a room air-conditioner, if not qualified, will be based on ASHRAE Standard 16-1983. This specifies test conditions of air onto the evaporator at 80°F dry bulb, 50% relative humidity (26.7°C, 49.1% saturation), and air onto the condenser at 95°F dry bulb, 75°F wet bulb (35°C and 23.9°C). The original basis for this specification was the ambient condition prevailing in the mass-market area of the USA. [Pg.363]
