Buccastem tablets

Buccastem tablets are a form of prochlorperazine for buccal administration, containing 3 mg of prochlorperazine in a polysaccharide base. When placed in position the tablet softens over a period of a few minutes to form a gel which adheres to the gum and gradually releases the dmg. [Pg.179]

Q82 Buccastem consists of prochlorperazine, a phenothiazine derivative, v/hich is presented as tablets that are to be placed high betv/een the upper lip and gum and allov/ed to dissolve there. It may be used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting associated v/ith migraine, as absorption from the stomach, v/hich is usually delayed in migraine, is avoided. [Pg.62]

Examples of marketed mucoadhesive formulations are Attach buccal tablets (triamcinolone acetonide), Susadrin sublingual tablets (nitroglycerin Forest Laboratories, NY), and Buccastem buccal tablets (prochlorperazine maleate Reckitt and Colman, England). [Pg.1254]
