Bolt check

When the workpiece has been clamped, check each nut and screw to ensure it is tight. Turn the faceplate by hand and check that all bolts and clamps are clear of the bed, cross slide or toolpost. To ensure this, avoid using excessively long clamping bolts. Check for out of balance of the faceplate - a counterbalance may be required. [Pg.142]

Insnfficient force exerted by clamping bolts Check number and positioning of bolts. [Pg.327]

Prior to anv machineiy alignment procedure, it is imperative to check for machine pipe strain. This is accomplished by the placement of dial indicators on the shaft and then loosening the hold-down bolts. Movements of greater than 1 mil are considered indication of a pipe strain condition. [Pg.1011]

Bolted joints are friendlier than quick-release couplings. The former are usually dismantled by a fitter after issue of a permit to work. One person prepares the equipment and another person opens it up the issue of the permit provides an opportunity to check that the correct precautions have been taken. In addition, if the joints are unbolted correctly, any trapped pressure is immediately apparent and the joint can be remade or the pressure allowed to blow off. In contrast, many accidents have occurred because operators opened up equipment which was under pressure, without independent consideration of the hazards, using quick-release couphngs. There are, however, designs of quick-release couphngs which give the operator a second chance. [Pg.2268]

The foundation bed or the structure on which the motor is mounted is not rigid, is tilted or is uneven. Tighten foundation bolts and check for proper alignment of the motor and the drive. Make the foundation or structure as rigid as possible. [Pg.240]

To check for soft foot, place a dial indicator onto the machinery foot, and loosening the base bolt. If the indicator moves more than 0.002 inches, the foot is soft and it should be corrected. Go through the same procedure on the remaining feet one at a time. [Pg.150]

The existing quality system requirements do have some of the above requirements but it is ISO/TS 16949 in which the full impact of their relationship is evident. It follows therefore that in making the transition from your existing system to an ISO/TS 16949 compliant system, the first step is to establish the extent to which your existing system possesses these linkages and feedback loops - a sort of coherence check to verify your system is not just a bolt-on extra. [Pg.62]

Many companies now insist that if use of the wrong grade of steel can affect the integrity of the plant, all steel must be checked for composition before use. This applies to flanges, bolts, welding rods, etc., as well as the raw pipe. Steel can be analyzed easily with a spectrographic analyzer. Other failures caused by the use of the wrong construction material are described in Section 16.1. [Pg.192]

A hot alignment check is performed exactly like an ambient alignment check with the added safety precautions required for hot machinery. The accuracy of a hot alignment check depends on how soon after shutdown dial indicator readings can be taken. Readings may be taken within a few minutes with the use of shaft-mounted brackets that span a flexible coupling. To speed up the process, assemble the brackets to the fullest extent possible prior to shutdown so that they need only be bolted to the shafts once the machine stops rotating. [Pg.931]

The forces and moments on the flange must also be checked under the bolting-up conditions. [Pg.864]

Celery and celeriac will bolt if growth is checked. They are best planted out as young plants when the soil has warmed up. The soil should be rich in organic matter, so it never dries out, and dressed with a medium- to high-fertility soil improver. [Pg.253]

Check that the rubber ring in the frame ring lies in its groove. Put on the frame hood with connection housing. Secure the hood with the hinged bolts. ... [Pg.21]

Tighten all nuts, bolts, and screws periodically check hooks regularly— open hooks may allow mattress to fall. [Pg.120]

Checks were weathered in cages to prevent wild attacks treated bolts were weathered uncovered to subject them to the full erosive impact of the elements. [Pg.211]
