Boiling fluids

The flashed steam method is less efficient and its requirements for steam properties—cleanliness, high temperature, and high pressure— are usually unavailable in most geothermal fields. The situation is different with the binary cycle system, which is quite efficient and widely used. This wet system involves the transfer of heat from the hot well stream into a more manageable boiling fluid to generate power through a turboexpander. [Pg.136]

For horizontal thermosiphon/natural units the boiling fluid is almost always on the shell side, with the heating medium in the tubes. In the vertical units the reboiling of the fluid is in the tubes. For kettle units, the boiling is in the shell. ColUns suggests a rule of thumb that if the viscosity of the reboUer is less than 0.5 centipoise (cp), the vertical thermosiphon should be considered, but when the viscosity is more than 0.5 cp, the horizontal reboUer is probably more economical. [Pg.162]

The arrangement of baffle plates and nozzles. The following nucleate or alternate designs procedure, suggested by Kem, is for vaporization (nucleate or pool boiling) only. No sensible heat transfer is added to the boiling fluid. [Pg.173]

The size of the tube will be such that the velocity of the boiling fluid within it will cause turbulence to promote heat transfer. Tube diameters will vary from 9 mm to 32 mm, according to the size of coil. [Pg.84]

Fluidization is the operation by which fine solids are transformed into a fiuidlike state through contact with a gas. At certain gas velocities, the fluid will support the particles, giving them freedom of mobility without entrainment. Such a fluidized bed resembles a vigorously boiling fluid with solid particles undergoing extremely turbulent motion, which increases with gas velocity. [Pg.176]

In case of boiling, the density rises and the level drops as the rate of boiling is reduced. Therefore, the measurement of hydrostatic head alone can determine neither the level nor the mass of liquid in the tank, and hence, the volumetric percentage of bubbles must be determined by a separate measurement. For a more detailed discussion of the measurement of the level of boiling fluids, refer to Figure 3.116. [Pg.449]

Starch is partially hydrolyzed under mildly acidic conditions to thin-boiling fluids that are less viscous and more translucent than the untreated starch dispersion, because of the reduction in DP. Strongly acidic media (pH < 3.0) promote more extensive lowering of the DP acid-stable polyanions may precipitate directly without passing through the transitional gel state. [Pg.21]

Thermal burns are less common than chemical burns. The cornea may be exposed to thermal burns from a variety of sources. The nature of the resultant injury is determined by the form and temperature of the causative agent. Open flame burns are the most common cause of severe thermal burns. Other causes of thermal burns include hot objects or Uquid, such as molten metal or glass that continues to radiate heat while in contact with the eye boiling fluids firecracker particles Ut match heads curling irons and steam from boiling water or after the preparation of microwave popcorn. [Pg.509]
