Root causes must be identifled and appropriate corrective action implemented. The accident analysis may be performed by the SSWG and/or by other boards of investigation, but the necessity for systematic, in-depth accident analysis is an integral part of the system safety effort.

Our investigation, within Terrance s (2000) classification of action research, was collaborative action research. The LON project team existed from three groups of partners Seven teachers from primary schools, six of whom conducted interventions in their schools the adviser for chemistry from the National Board of Education for Slovenia and three chemical education researchers from the Department of Chemical Education and Informatics, University of Ljubljana. 

The investigation was conducted in the form of collaborative action research in order to bring together the strengths of chemistiy teachers, the advisor for chemistry from The National Board of Education for Slovenia, and chemical education researchers from University of Ljubljana, and at the same time to enable a direct transfer of estabhshed research findings into teaching practice. As you know, conventional IC sockets have too much inductance to ever be used in modern switching power supplies. But, as I have said many times, it is just not enough to test one device/board and move on. We can have many boards made available to us, but they will probably last only for a few days. And besides, that also introduces too many variables in the initial stages of investigation. We would really like the flexibility of an IC socket that works. 

William R. Rhyne received a B.S. in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee and M.S. and D.Sc. degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia. Danilo Corradini is research director at the Institute of Chemical Methodologies of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and a member of the General Scientific Advisory Board of CNR. His involvement in separation science started in 1976 with his research work on chromatography and electrophoresis for his PhD studies in chemistry, which was carried out at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, under the direction of Michael Lederer, founder and first editor of the Journal of Chromatography.
