Block-counting tests

Particle count tests are important to anticipating potential system or machine problems. This is especially true in hydraulic systems. The particle count analysis made a part of a normal lube oil analysis is quite different from wear particle analysis. In this test, high particle counts indicate that machinery may be wearing abnormally or that failures may occur because of temporarily or permanently blocked orifices. No attempt is made to determine the wear patterns, size and other factors that would identify the failure mode within the machine. 

For the determination of sub-visible particles the Ph. Eur. describes two methods of analysis in chapter 2.9.19 Particulate Contamination . One method concerns the light obscuration particle count test and the second one the microscopic particle count test. The results of both methods are not always mutually comparable. For quantitative purposes the light block method is mainly used. The microscopic method can be used for viscous products or for those which are problematic in the light obscuration method... 

Preemployment tests—examinations administered by potential employers to determine applicants job qualifications and readiness examples include the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test (BMCT) by George K. Bennett (S T version) the Richardson, Bellows, Henry Company "Test of Chemical Comprehension" (S T version, 1970) and the California Math Test. Types include reading comprehension, accuracy checking, block counting, and tests developed in-house.

Before the loop begins, the program creates a variable named count and sets its value to 1. The while loop test checks whether count is less than or equal to 10 and executes the two statements contained in the only braces as long as this condition holds true. The hrst statement prints out the cmrent value of count, and the second increments the variable by 1. The first time the while statement is encountered, count was set to 1, so the block is executed. The second time, count is 2, and the block is executed again. This continues imtil count is 6, at which point the test is no longer true (because count is greater than 5) and the loop terminates. The output for the program is quite simply... 

In the same way that unless reverses the sense of the If statement, until can be used as an alternative to while. Until loops will execute the contents of a block until a certain test becomes true. The counting program could then be rewritten as follows, to yield the same output ... 

Studies Serum IgM anti-GMl antibody titers were elevated. Serum blood counts, general chemistries, vitamin levels, and thyroid and parathyroid tests were normal. Man-made mineral fibres also have a special method, not only 5mg/m gravimetric, but 2 f/ml counted in the microscope, in this case a fibre means a particle with length >5ym, average diameter <3ym, and the ratio iength to diameter >3 to 1. Fibres shall be counted with a phase contrast microscope of such a quality and maintained in such a condition at all times during use that Block 5 on the HSE/NPL Test. 

With single-channel polarizers, the measurements of polarization are inherently incomplete. When a pair has been emitted, if no count is obtained at one of the photomultipliers, there is no way to know if "it has been missed" by the detector or if it has been blocked by the polarizer (only the later case corresponds to a result - for the measurement). This is why one had to resort to auxiniary experiments, and indirect reasoning, in order to test Bell s inequalities. 

Pulse pair resolution is determined either by the input block or by the first counting circuit. If otherwise unavailable, a simple test instrument can be built around two 74LS221 Integrated monostables and an OR gate, as shown in Fig. 8.2.
