Quantitative surface and interfacial tension data for polymers are crucial to many aspects of the production and application of elastomers, plastics, textiles, films and coatings, foams, polymer blends, adhesives, and sealants. Although interface is the inclusive term for the region in space where two phases meet, if one of the phases is gaseous it is usually called a surface [1]. Thus we refer here to the surface tension of a polymer in air but to the interfacial tension between a polymer and a condensed phase such as water or another polymer. 

The manufacturing process is illnstrated in Rg. 61.4. Mostly, these films are processed and supplied in roll form. The snrfaces of polyester films and polyimide films undergo special processes such as sandblasting and plasma treatment to achieve a rehable bond strength. A specially blended adhesive resin is coated on the film and dried. Then a copper foil is laminated continuously under appropriate temperature and pressure.The surfaces of the copper foils receive a specific treatment according to the requirements of each laminate s manufacturer.

The dried blood product which is used for the protein blend adhesives is the soluble blood type, which is 80-95% soluble in water. This product becomes strongly adhesive in alkaline dispersed form at a lower pH than the soy product. 

Good adhesion between the dispersed rubber phase and the continuous polystyrene phase is one requirement for improving the impact strength of rubber modified blends. Adhesion can be improved by compatibilization. There are several ways that this can be done. One way is to add molecules to the resin mixture that interact with, or have molecular similarities to, both phases. These are called compatibilizers.
