Blasters Handbook A Manual Describing Explosives and Practical Methods of Using Them, E. I. duPont de Nemours Co., Inc., Wilmington, Del., 1977. [Pg.30]

The effective range of a typical air blaster is on the order of 1.8—2.4 m. If a single air blaster does not provide sufficient energy to break an arch, multiple units can be used. These are fired simultaneously if at the same elevation, then start sequentially from lower elevations in the hopper and work upward. [Pg.563]

When firing an air blaster, the pressure in the chamber is initially felt at nearly its maximum value in a locali2ed area of the bin wall around the blaster no22le which may require reinforcement to take the pressure. [Pg.563]

Nitramon WW has a d of approx 1.2g/cc, which allows it to sink readily in w, but at the same time does not require an excessive amt of buoyant material for suspended charges. Nitramon WW-EL returns about 65% greater useful seismic energy than Nitramon WW Ref Blaster s Hndbk (1969), 47—55... [Pg.213]

The dry ice blaster is an effective and mess-free method for in-place cleaning that eliminates the need to disassemble machinery before it is cleaned. Compressed air propels tiny dry ice pellets at supersonic speeds so they flash freeze and then lift grime, paint, rust, mold, and other contaminants from metal surfaces. Pellets vaporize quickly into the air, leaving no wastewater or solvents, only the soiled contaminant to be swept up. [Pg.176]

The flame produced on striking matches is used to ignite intermediate or "transfer" items of which Safety Fuses, also called Bickford Fuses (See Vol 1 of Encycl, p B112-L) are most frequently used. Blasters Hdb (Ref 50, p 97) describes fuses with BT (burning time)... [Pg.761]

Howden Dynamite. A mixture compounded in 1870 in San Francisco by J. Howden and consisting of NG 75 absorbed in a mixture of sugar, magnesium carbonate and potassium nitrate. This Dynamite was stronger and better than Nobel s Kieselguhr Dynamite Ref Blasters Handbook (1952), p 5 (1958)... [Pg.175]

The use of this lighter insures better results in rotation firing and allows more time for. the blaster to retire before the detonation of the first charge, since he has only the pilot fuse to light. The use of this type of fuse has the disadvantage of requiring large amounts of fuse (Ref 4)... [Pg.271]
